Review

Having studied in Madrid the previous semester I really wanted to come back and have a different type of work experience during the summer. I enjoyed the laid back environment of my internship with Fundación Tríangulo yet I gained valuable insight about public health and sexual health in Spain, among many other skills which will benefit my future career/studies. I did enjoy the centrality of our apartment but it was quite small, I know this is normal for Madrid. I enjoyed all the new connections

I hope that the students living at Calle Atocha 14, 2F have full transparency about the apartment in the future. I showed up last and took the loft as my "bedroom," meaning I had to walk through either of my roomates bedrooms to reach the bathroom as they are located at the END, not connected to the living space. This was not really an issue for me but for certain roomates I feel like it could be an issue to constantly have someone walking through. There was also absolutely NO curtains or even a wall to block my sleeping space from the living room, and since it was a loft it was constantly hot, so I went out to buy curtains AND a fan which I shouldn't have to purchase on my own when both bedrooms had AC. There was also just one table to do work at, no desks, and the wifi was constantly going out. I was working a little on the side for my university and sometimes I wouldn't be able to get on Zoom because the wifi wasn't connecting. The landlord Guillermo did nothing to fix this as well. The plaza right across from our building is also not a nice area with many homeless camped by the bus station and the constant smell of urine during hot summer days. Overall I enjoyed having a kitchen and washing machine, the apartment was decently well maintained, and the location was as central as can be, BUT this apartment should not be for three people. I know it was probably expected for one bedroom to be shared by two people but we are adults, some masters students, and for such a costly program we deserve a real bedroom and especially a desk for working. Better apartments could certainly be found in other areas of the city, they don't have to be right in sol. In the spring I lived near O'Donnell which was fantastic, quiet, more spacious, and still close to the city center.
