Carla

Now that my experience is finished I can say that Come2England really do a very good job. I was living in London for two years, one of which I've been a waitress. When I looked unlikely to get an internship in my area (Marketing), I met Come2england and in less than three weeks I started my internship. The customer service is great and they are very concerned about all you needs.

Response from Come2England

Great experience

I was looking for internship abroad but it was not easy to find a job, place to stay plus my english is not the best.

I contacted come2england and they explain me and help me with everything.

Giada was very helpful and always replay to all my questions. She introduce me few companies with who I had skype interviews and check which of them can help me develop my skills the most.

NEGATIVE ASSESSMENT OF YOUR PROFESSIONAL SKILLS

Come2England was entirely responsible for the administation of my grant, provided by the Leonardo programme for accommodation and subsistence. Part of the money was used for the rent of my room in a place in terrible conditions where there was no hygiene and no privacy, the landlord was disrespectful and I had to solve many big problems every day. When I asked for your help I was told I was simply lacking adaptability. When the contact person gave me the money for my subsistence I immediately found out a huge part of the grant was missing (£508). Only after several requests of transparency I came to know part of my grant was used to pay Come2England for its assistance. According to the training agreement I had signed with my sending organization, the expenses of accommodation and subsistence should have been covered by the grant but I had to rely on my own my money instead. The organization Come2England found for my internship was bad managed, I had no tutor, no clear taskk and I did not get any training experience. The contact person never helped me in any single aspect concerning working issues.

Response from Come2England

Hello Clara and thanks for your feedback.
We checked your history in our database and we found some discrepancies between your comment and the information we have.
According to our record you came to London with a Leonardo scholarship which Come2England had to manage in order to find you an accommodation and an internship in a charity organization. Part of your scholarship has been used to pay the rent and Come2England services. As we are sure you are aware, finding a placement and an accommodation is a job and it has a fee. All our prices are clearly reported on our webpage to show 100% transparency.
Once again we are surprised to hear this feedback from you as the accommodation was in the average of London houses and we had a very positive feedback about your internship performance by your tutor.
We are sorry to hear your discontent but we hope in your understanding about the reality of the facts.

Unforgettable experience

I participated in this program in 2013 when it had been recently created. At first I thought it might be a bit troublesome but I decided to take the risk as it was really cheap and I had my parents financial support.
Surprisingly, I found the experience to excess my first expectations. The staff (specially Giada who speaks my language fluently) was really nice and caring, and the company in which they found my internship (a football club management company) was the best environment for me to start my career. They were completely multicultural and in some cases the work was challenging, though I always had my superiors support. I totally recommend Come2England, they are very serious and professional people.

What would you improve about this program?
By the time I went to London they didn't provide many the accommodation options, they should work in getting more residences, rooms in shared flats or family home staying.
Response from Come2England

Hey Jose! Thank you so much for your kind feedback :)
We are so happy to hear that your internship in London has been a good experience for you and your personal development ;)

We definitely improved our accommodation option in the last year and we are now providing homestay and student residences together with top quality flatshare!

You should come back, visit us and give it a try :)

Why did you decide to intern abroad with Come2England?

The main reason why I picked Come2England was because I wasn’t self-confident at all and I thought I needed some professional support. Actually, I thought it would be nearly impossible for me to find an internship abroad.

Of course there are lots of opportunities in the internet, but having someone who you know is caring about you definitely makes a big difference. Besides, Come2England’s fees were the lowest I found, and as I had heard good customer’s reviews, I decided to give it a try. So, after calling them, I got involved in a selection process that at the end of the day I found very satisfying.

Tell us about an experience you had that you could not have had at home.

I was really interested in working abroad because since I was a child I always wanted to work in international environments. After joining my selected company in London I started to meet a lot of people. All of them came from different backgrounds, so the overall experience was very rewarding.

I got to know new habits and cultures, and of course I improved my English language skills. One experience I could never have had at home was to go out with my new colleagues to a place in London called Shoreditch. Shoreditch is an area where many art galleries are located, and the first Thursday of each month, those galleries open to public and offer free drinks! I always had a great time there, and actually it is one of the things I miss the most now.

How has this experience impacted your future?

Personally, during this experience I met my current girlfriend, so that might probably be the biggest impact I received! Besides, this internship helped me to fill in my CV and make it more attractive to potential employers. After one year, I have already finished college and I was recently hired by a very large international corporation.

Do you think I would have achieved it if I had just stayed at home with my old friends and family? I guess not. An international experience is much more than that, do that is why I think it had a very positive impact on my life in every single aspect.

What is one piece of advice you'd give future Come2England students?

I would tell them that if they are unsure about doing an internship abroad, they should just relax, try to learn as much as possible, and enjoy. Life is too short and at the end of the day these experiences help us a lot to grow up and start thinking in a different way.

If you are going to live in London, you must know it is a vibrant and gorgeous city, with a lot of different things to do and interesting people to meet. Go out at night and enjoy its great nightlife. Please, be enthusiastic about doing your internship. And, of course, don’t miss Shoreditch’s Thursdays!

Sara joined the team of Come2England eager to provide assistance to students like her. What she learnt from her Erasmus in Dublin is that it is extremely helpful to have someone by your side when you are a newbie in a foreign city, and that’s what she’s trying to do being responsible of Come2England Customer Service department.

What is your favorite travel memory?

Without any doubt my favourite traveling experience was the InterRail I did on the summer of 2012 with three very close friends. It meant a lot to me since it was the first time for quite a few things; first time travelling abroad, first time travelling by plane and even it was the first (and hopefully the last) time sleeping in a train station!.

We did a tour around almost every country in central Europe. We started in Munich, followed by Prague, Berlin, Amsterdam, Bruges, Brussels and ended in Paris, although we didn’t have much time for that last one. This trip taught me to face setbacks with a smile in the face, to leave the shyness behind and start a conversation with a stranger and a bit of map orientation.

After this first encounter with Europe, I discovered I have the traveling bug and that I don’t want to stop discovering what this marvellous planet has to offer.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

Since this is my first professional experience, I am constantly learning new things; there is not a single day in which I go back home without the feeling of professional and personal improvement.

I am more organized now and after working in the customer service department I now feel more confident and comfortable when talking on the phone and handling clients and their requests, but my change has been more personal than professional. I have learnt to accept different opinions from my colleagues and to understand and listen to their points of view.

Moreover, one of the best things of working in Come2England is that it is a multicultural company and I have even learnt some words in Italian and improved my French skills!

Did YOU intern abroad?! If so, where and what inspired you to go?

Indeed, I am interning abroad! Thanks to the Erasmus practicas program for European students I got a scholarship to do the internship in London. My university receives vacant positions from different companies and cities around Europe and I saw this one for the customer service department in Come2England, and I saw a huge opportunity for me there.

I consider myself to be easy-going and extrovert so I thought that starting my professional career in the customer service department could suit me.

Doing an internship is an excellent way to make your resume more attractive, but what really pushed me to go ahead with the internship was the personal experience I was going to live. After doing an Erasmus in Dublin I wanted to continue with the experience of living abroad and I wanted to challenge myself with a bigger city, and I have to admit that so far so good!

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

I think a successful company is one in which each worker wakes up every morning thrilled to go to work. Every person has to be passionate with what they are doing, otherwise the company won’t succeed.

If you are working surrounded by colleagues you want to work with, holding a positive attitude towards the possible drawbacks life might throw to you and you always want to improve, grow and learn, the working is not painful anymore. The company becomes part of you, and therefore you want the best for it. You put all your love and effort in the each task, even in the smallest and most meaningless, and that can be seen in the final outcome.
