Which is a better city to study abroad in, Dublin or Cork?

Answer

Cork. Its easier to travel around in. Dublin is very very crowded and driving is near impossible, also its a lot more expensive. Cork is very modern and different than anywhere else in Ireland, its more like America to be honest!

Dublin! There are endless things to do and places to explore. It's absolutely gorgeous and within a short train ride to some of the most beautiful coastal towns (Bray, Howth, Dun Laoghaire, etc.). You will never be bored.

I was in Cork for a semester, and I absolutely loved living there. It has a great vibe and it has amazing personality. You can get the hang of the city in a short amount of time. I went to University College of Cork and it was fabulous! I also loved the short time I spent in Dublin. However, it more touristy and what people would expect of an Irish city. Honestly, anywhere you chose is going to be amazing. Ireland is such a special country!

I fell completely in love with Cork! It's an incredible city and the culture is so unique and it's just beautiful. It's such a fun place, the night life is great, the people are friendly, and there is so much to do. I love that it's a smaller city, and it's divert close to the country so you're never far from a good dose of green. UCC is absolutely beautiful and I had a great experience at this university. It's also really close to the city centre. Cork is known for their food, festivals, and music too. It's easy to travel from Cork, as well. I did love Dublin, but after I visited I realized how happy I was that I had chosen Cork. You still get the city vibe, but it's much less crowded and touristy. I loved everything about it. But I'm sure if I had studied in Dublin I would be saying the same thing about that city, so I promise you can't go wrong and you'll have a blast wherever you go :) good luck!

I spent a good bit of time in both, but Dublin tends to be a better option. Dublin has such a good network of public transportation (trains, bus) to anywhere else in the country and the airport would provide for the cheapest flights when trying to travel to other European countries. I also personally enjoyed the vibe in Dublin compared to Cork regarding the nightlife and history. Cork does have a excellent market and cafes, but to me it is a place that is nice to visit for a few days, but not stay there.

I studied abroad in Dublin, and LOVED it. I went to Cork for a weekend and really enjoyed it, but preferred Dublin. There is a lot more to do in Dublin, and it's much larger. It's accessible to other parts of the country really easily, the airport is really close to the city centre, and the city is just wonderful. In terms of size, it's much more comparable to an American city- Cork is much smaller(but very nice!). Dublin has the city, but also a lot of really cool towns around it that are wonderful, especially being on the coast. It's also nice to be so close to Northern Ireland, for a quick day trip. My advice is study in Dublin, visit Cork!

I think it depends which type of experience you are looking for. From my understanding, Dublin is more "touristic" so the culture may seem faded. I know with my experience, i was between Paris and Grenoble France. I chose Grenoble because I wanted to immerse myself in pure culture and not in tourists and I was extremely happy with my decision. Cork may be smaller, the culture will be different and Dublin would probably have much more for you to do there.

I studied in Dublin this past semester and absolutely loved t. While the Irish culture can seem a little faded at points, you are definitely able to find it. There is SO much to do in and around the city, seeing as it is relatively big. We walked pretty much everywhere we went if it was within a 30 minute walk-- you get used to walking everywhere. We visited Cork for a weekend and we did love it, though it did not seem like there was a lot to do at night/on the weekends. This may have been just because we did not know where to look though! I highly recommend Dublin (I am a little biased)!!
