Alumni Spotlight: Kimberly Norcia

Kimberly Norcia - Studying Abroad in New Zealand

Why did you decide to study abroad with GlobaLinks at AUT?

Kimberly: I was originally interested in Australia, but when I discovered New Zealand and AUT I could not even consider Australia again. First, I decided to study abroad at AUT, because it offered liberal arts classes that were not offered in Australia. Second, AUT was in the heart of Auckland and near the ocean. Being a San Diego girl, I like to be near the ocean. AUT had the whole package of location and academics.

What made your study abroad experience unique and special?

Kimberly: This experience was unique, because not only was everyone extremely friendly, but they were also outgoing. I made friends who I still talk to today. What made the real difference for me was the week orientation with AustrLearn. Being able to be someplace I was not going to study and experience some the unique things New Zealand offers was amazing. It also helped curb homesickness, because I was able to get to know everyone and make friends easily.

How has this experience impacted your future?

Kimberly: This experience has greatly impacted my future by giving me worldly and life experience. Not only have a seen a unique part of the world and immersed myself in another culture, but I had to live on my own so to speak. My family was not just a phone call or 30 min drive away anymore.
