Llacs de Tristaina in Andorra

I studied abroad as a sophomore in Valencia, Spain, and after graduation I worked as an English teacher in Andorra for a year.

In both cases I wanted improve my language skills and deepen my understanding of the world. I think that I accomplished both goals, but maybe more than anything, I learned quite a bit about myself.

What is your favorite travel memory?

My favorite travel experience was the Christmas that I spent in Budapest, Hungary during my year in Andorra. Slightly homesick while traveling over the holidays, I found the Hungarian people really welcoming.

Given that almost everything else was closed on Christmas Day, we walked over to the Jewish quarter to each lunch, and were struck by visual impact of the empty streets, Jewish iconography, and war-worn architecture. The experience felt like a form of time travel.

If you could travel anywhere, where would it be and why?

My grandfather was a meteorologist in the Air Force, and was stationed in Morocco during the Korean War. He has told me so many stories about his time there and the wonderful, generous people he met, but it would mean a lot to one day visit the places that I grew up hearing about.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

SU Abroad is unique in that it is very much a part of Syracuse University’s campus, but at the same time provides thousands of students a year with access to far-off destinations.

Our staff are eminently qualified, and have an excellent track record in providing student-centered service, both in sending Syracuse undergraduates and hosting students from other colleges and universities.
