Interview

What is your favorite travel memory?

My favourite travel memory was when I was leading a group of student in Yogyakarta Indonesia, doing volunteering work with the wildlife rescue centre Yogyakarta. It was unforgetable when we had to go inside a pond to rescue the critically endangered malayan giant turtle for the centre breeding programe. All of us was covered in mud but we succesfully relocate about 10 of them. After all the hardwork, we enjoyed discovering beutiful places in yogyakarta and made friends we call our second family.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

Since I started working for Fuze Ecoteer 6years ago, I started to have a different view about conservation work. I learnt that conservation actually revolve around working with people more than actual work with nature. I started my work by first understanding the community and their culture and how they depend on the environment for their life and starts to build good relation and communication to enable conservation work to happen. We believe in community empowerment and including the community in conservation work for a more sustainable approach.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

I came across a student who stayed with us for a month and he was very timid and not confident with himself. After joining the program, he became boost with confidence and became excited to share his conservation work with the community especially the local kids. He continues to further his studies in marine biology and often update us with his research work.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

My heart belongs to the children so i will always choose the Perhentian eco education project as a volunteering program. Often our volunteers learn so much about conservation from this young kids and I enjoy investing my time and efforts educating the future generation that will protect the environment. I love swimming and snorkeling in the sea with the kids and see them identify species of corals and fishes effortlessly. Always an amazing experience when you are surrounded by the local kids.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

Fuze ecoteer is unique as it always makes you feel like a family instead of a staff working for a company. There’s this charm that hugs everyone joining the family of ecoteer. Often, when we say goodbye to our volunteers and participant we could see tears from their eyes while waving at us and at that moment i know our team has done a great job and I always feel super proud of my team.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

I believe a great team members is the biggest factor in being a successful company and Fuze Ecoteer obviously have that charm. Handling volunteering tourism services, we offer great hospitality with warm smiles and great knowledge in assisting our volunteers and participant during the course of their stay in our program.
