The staff at Voluns are really helpful and committed to helping all volunteers have a good experience. I worked as a Community & Development volunteer in 2013. The Voluns staff made several important accommodations and adjustments for myself and other volunteers due to personal preferences and requests. I completed this program as part of a field experience component for my Master's degree - and it was perfect for giving me relevant professional experience at a great cost. I also got to be relatively independent during the program, but there were always small social gatherings and opportunities to connect with other volunteers on other projects.
What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
I had to speak Spanish A LOT! In the office where I volunteered, I interacted with community members on a daily basis, trying to help them on the phone and at the front desk. It was a huge challenge for me but I'm proud that I managed to get by!
