Warasa Garifuna Drum School

Why choose Warasa Garifuna Drum School?

Warasa is a local family owned and run cultural drum school that offers visitors and locals lessons and presentations in indigenous Garifuna drumming, drum-making, dancing and culture.

We are a small business rather than an NGO, but we want to be able to offer free lessons to local children to stop the culture from dying out. But to be able to afford to do this, we need more paying guests, as the upkeep costs of the drums, thatch etc. are high.

To help us to achieve our dreams, we are looking for volunteers experienced in marketing to bring in more guests, sell more souvenirs (CDs, DVDs, maracas, drums etc.) and generally help our business become profitable year-round so that we can run a sustainable program for local children.

We offer a small basic wooden room under our beautiful traditional thatch on the edge of Punta Gorda town. It has a single bed with foam mattress, small fan, mosquito net, and cement floor.
