The Wekimun Project

Why choose The Wekimun Project?

WEKIMÜN CHILKATUWE works on Chiloe Island, Chile, as a school for and with indigenous youth and their communities. We are a collaborative development project, funded by the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Development (DFATD) - administered by the University of PEI and the Williche Council of Chiefs (Chiloe Island, Chile). We focus on human rights, indigenous rights, and sustainable development practices through education; we are a school offering programming to indigenous youth (15 to 44 years old) from isolated and marginalized communities. Anyone from our target communities are able to attend, regardless of education level, and will receive certification in one of our programs.
