Maynooth University Summer Abroad

To say that my time studying at Maynooth was the best thing I have ever done thus far in my life, would be an understatement. I have always been interested in travel, adventure and the exotics of different cultures. Maynooth University provided me with all of the above, and so much more! I got the chance to learn so much about my field in business from a global perspective, while also sinking myself into the rich Irish culture. From the visit to the surreal views of The Cliffs of Moher and the fresh feel of the Atlantic Ocean in Galway, there was never a dull moment, with such beautiful sights to see and delicious food to feast on...pro Irish tip, ALWAYS order the Guinness and Beef stew... You won’t regret it! Along my unforgettable journey I got to share it with other students from all around the world who I still call my best friends up to this day! Definitely a trip to remember and an experience of a lifetime.

What was your funniest moment?
The funniest moment was when I was eating ice cream with my friends and we decided to sit up on a grassy cliff that had stairs leading up to it. As I got to the top of the stairs I fell flat on my face and then a birds came to eat my ice cream! Luckily the ice cream shop gave me another scoop!

Maynooth Study Abroad-- Best Experience!

Studying abroad at Maynooth University was an amazing experience! The campus is centrally located--only 30-40 minutes by bus/train to Dublin, the professors and class options are very diverse, and the overall experience of living on campus was very enjoyable (near multiple grocery and convenience stores). Orientation Week ensured we were fully informed about all of our responsibilities, and reassured us through various processes like immigration registration, travel advice, and culture/academic shock that may occur throughout our stay.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
Don't be afraid to take chances-- say yes to anything and everything you can to ensure you enjoy the experience as much as possible. Take new courses that you wouldn't otherwise be able to at home, and take advantage of the beautiful environment, culture, and history surrounding you in Ireland.

Amazing Summer in Maynooth!

Getting to spend 4 weeks in Maynooth was one of the most amazing trips of my life! I got to experience normal college life in Ireland, learn about the culture, and take several amazing trips to different scenic locations across Ireland! Going to the store and seeing all the different options was an adventure by itself, let alone going to visit beautiful historic sites, such as Clonmacnoise. My all time favorite place we got to visit was Giant’s Causeway and seeing the gorgeous cliffs and the Columnar Rejointing! I even got to taste the ocean (much to my friend’s amusement)!

What would you improve about this program?
If I could change anything, it would be having more activities revolting around the culture. Some of my favorite trips were onyl available to me because I choose the course they were offered by, so most of the other program members did not get to exerience them. I would have loved optional courses on Irish language, and more about their history and culture.

Fall Semester 2018

I loved staying in Ireland for a couple months, and honestly I wish I could’ve stayed for a whole year. I loved the environment of the school and surrounding community, I loved the support of my professors and my classmates, and I loved the beautiful landscapes that I got to explore every day. Most importantly, I loved being in a beautiful country with beautiful people, and I learned a lot about the country I also learned a lot about myself. The school was beautiful and the people were intellectual, and it was close to Dublin so I got to go explore the city easily, and I loved every second of it! I love Maynooth ❤️

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Take every opportunity you can to get involved. Whether it’s going on weekend trips or going out on a weeknight to a pub to meet people, every experience that you can make his worth it.

Semester in Ireland

I would suggest people plan ahead to go with several people from a university to share a suite with. I did not know my roomates going into it and it made for a rather uncomfortable living experience when I was not out doing things. There's also the fact that American students should know that the academic structure of a course is very different in Europe and should be advised to make a real effort in their classes while they are abroad. All in all it was a good trip and chance to learn about another country.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I wouldn't have wasted my time with certain people or things

I miss Maynooth!!!

My semester spend at Maynooth was the best of my life! Staff and students were incredibly kind, and they make international students feel at home. I made the most amazing memories at Maynooth, and friendships which will last a lifetime! I enjoyed the cozy, small town vibe while able to enjoy everything Dublin city had to offer as well. My professors at Maynooth were outstanding, classes were so interesting, and profs loved having students drop by for office hours. Student life is very good in Maynooth, with fun events occurring often! The restaurants and pubs in Maynooth are really good too - I still find myself craving something from the Roost or Yeah Burger!! I highly recommend Maynooth University to anyone studying abroad!

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
Maynooth is SO safe and laid back! I was really nervous to study abroad but I never felt unsafe at all, and the laid-back irish vibes were reassuring.

Study Abroad Review

Studying abroad in Maynooth, Ireland was the best experience in my whole life. I was looking forward to going abroad my whole life and it really came true. Everyone is so friendly and it is such a great way to explore and learn so much more. It was very easy to travel from Ireland, so I went to a different country almost every weekend, besides when I stayed to explore Ireland. Maynooth has such a beautiful campus and the town is so cute. There was always somewhere to go at night and the restaurants and pubs were so delicious. I loved it so much and would do anything to go back!

Studying Abroad - The Best Decision of My College Career

My time spent at Maynooth University was a defining part of my college career. I believe studying abroad, even for just a semester, is one of the most beneficial decisions a student can make. I experienced not only the wonderful culture and gorgeous scenery of Ireland, but also the joy of making connections in a country that is not my own and creating lasting friendships with people I would have never known otherwise. I still keep in contact with the student leaders from the university who guided us during our stay as well as the group of friends I made there. We actually met up a few months after our studies, traveling from different parts of the country to celebrate New Year's Eve and reminisce on our Summer in Ireland. Studying abroad will broaden and enrich your perspective of the world; from the people you'll meet, the food you'll eat, the history you'll learn, and the similarities you will discover between yourself and those who seem so different, it is a truly unique experience. Maynooth University offers this and more. The immersive program allows you the freedom to explore on your own balanced with excellent professors and guided excursions. I highly recommend seizing this opportunity while you can!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Go with an open mind and open heart. Don't hesitate to talk to new people or try new things, embarrass yourself a little and laugh a lot because it truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be a student traveling abroad, no point in wasting it by feeling negative or complaining.
Also be willing to explore and fend for yourself as much as making new friends. You learn a lot about yourself when you're in new surroundings and away from your daily routine, embrace the change.

Maynooth International Summer School 2019

I took part in the International Summer school at Maynooth from July to August 2019. My time at Maynooth University has helped me a lot in the past year, since I had the unique opportunity to collect new experiences, get to know people from different countries around the world and dive into fields of study that I had up to that time no experience with at all. I remember Ireland as a beautifully green and welcoming country and my stay at Maynooth has opened up an opportunity to get to know it better and shape my point of view. Highlights of my stay certainly were the exploratory trip around the whole country and the excellent tutoring of the teachers. I would recommend taking part in a Summer School because it opens your horizon and broadens your knowledge not just where intellectual capacities are concerned

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
I was genuinely stunned by the Irish landscape which is truly awsome for taking pictures.

Maynooth University

My name is Regan Wess and I am an engineering student from South Dakota Mines in the United States. I attended Maynooth University’s summer program in 2019. Being able to study on MU’s campus was an incredible experience, and I got to meet amazing people that I still keep in touch with. Learning about Ireland’s history and culture was so enlightening, and I am grateful for everything that MU did to provide the most memorable experience possible. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about that summer.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Be open to all of the cultural differences and embrace the change!
