About Program

The program is hosted by the International Knowledge Center(IKC), a partnership between the Knowledge Exchange Institute (KEI), Instituto Tecnologico Bolivariano (ITB) and Centro Ecuatoriano Norteamericano de Guayaquil (CEN).
The IKC is located in the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador's largest city. Ecuador is your portal to South American life, food and culture! Guayaquil, the largest city in Ecuador and the country's commercial center, is an hour drive from tropical beaches, Amazon basin and Andes mountains.

The IKC offers many programs of study including Business, Ecology & Environment, and Health Studies, along with Spanish Language & Ecuadorian Culture as well. Students will find themselves with accommodations at home-stays with local host families. Along with a true cultural immersion experience, host families are a great way to feel comfortable with local people, willing to accept you into their family during your stay. Trust in KEI to make this experience a memory of a lifetime!

One Step Closer to My Future Career

My favorite aspect of my study abroad experience in Guayaquil, Ecuador was definitely the Clinical Internship. I had the opportunity to work along side a family doctor and registered nurse. Although things were very difficult due to the language barrier, I was able to gain value skills, such as checking vital signs and giving intramuscular injections. All of these were learned in Spanish! Both the nurse and doctor were very patient and were eager to share both their language, skills, and culture with each of us. Which brings to my second favorite aspect of the program, the people. The people of Guayaquil were some of the friendliest people I ever met! I will never forget my first day of classes with local students. After the teacher had me introduce myself to the class, many of the students were eager to work with me, teach me Spanish, and, surprisingly, speak English with me. They took to me their favorite restaurants, hangouts, and introduced me to their families. While living in Guayaquil, I had my very own host family. My host mother and host brother treated me as if I was there very own family. Overall, I would highly recommend this program to any student who is searching for a unique and valuable academic experience within a warm and welcoming environment.

What would you improve about this program?
Although the people of the city are very friendly, there is not much to do. It would be great if maybe they continued the program in a city with more fun activities. In addition, traveling around the city by taxi is very expensive. It would be great if administrators taught students how to navigate the public transportation city.
