Marine Conservation Semester - 3 courses, 12 credit hours
Global Marine Issues: This course examines global marine issues from
interdisciplinary perspectives. Students develop a background in maritime cultures, laws of the sea, and the ecological, economic, and social importance of the marine environment. Issues studied in depth include fisheries, climate change,
pollution, tourism, habitat alteration, island and coastal management, protected areas, and endangered species.
Gulf of California Conservation Case Studies: Concepts introduced in Global Marine Studies are illustrated through regional case studies in this course. Students gain an understanding of the complexity of many conservation challenges through first hand field observation and participation.
Applied Conservation Practicum: Students work alongside KBC conservation fellows to contribute to on going research projects.
