IVHQ China teaching English program

I volunteered in China for 4 weeks on the teaching English program and I can honestly say it has been the best experience in my life. I arrived on the Saturday evening and the airport pickup ran smoothly. for the project itself I was placed at the school in Weinan. I was expecting Weinan to be a small place, but it is a good sized city with lots of places to eat. The school was really accommodating and helped me in any way possible. In the morning we would go out to a different kindergarten every morning which transport provided by the school. I loved the Kindergartens's the children are so tiny and cute and they are fascinated by foreigners teaching them. Be prepared for the children to repeat back to you whatever you say to them. I would say the children really respond well to songs, games and dancing. In the afternoon I taught at the school where I was staying. The classes are 40 minutes long, I structured my lessons by doing a refresher activity from the previous lesson and then I introduced a new concept to them. At the weekends we went back to Xi'an where we mixed with the other volunteers. In xi'an there are lots of things to do which included terracotta warriors, the city wall and the Muslim quarter. As well as having lots of placed to eat. Get ready for a big culture shock and embrace the Chinese culture you will have an amazing time!!!!!
