Review

I have concluded a 3-months long internship at a consulting company in Chengdu and I have gained both professional and personal experience. Overall, I very much enjoyed my time in China and enhanced my knowledge in various fields. I have gained insight in the operations of a financial service company and into the Chinese business enviornment. Furthermore, I could discover an amazingly beautiful country and its friendly people. Through this internship I have gained new know-how on how to interact with people from different backgrounds and learned more about my strenght and weaknesses. The level of English of my collegues was unfortunately not very good, which led to some misunderstandings. But they were very supportive and welcoming. My main tasks were to do reserach, preparing presentations, and editing fee schedules. I have worked with six other people, among three other interns. The working environment was very relaxed and I worked from Monday to Friday, from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm. I was not very satisified with the office space, because it was very small and I had to bring my own laptop. Luckily, the agency gave me the contact of a french girl who also did an internship in Chengdu and we could share an appartment. On the weekend I tried to explore the country and I could visit Beijing, Shanghai and places in Sichuan province. Furthermore, I could learn some Chinese as only a few people speak English there. The biggest adjustments were definetly the air pollution, the traffic and the (spicy) food, however, I would not want to miss this experience and I would definetly go to Chengdu again. I very much enjoyed my time in China and the amazing people I have met there and the agency was a big support during my time!
