Program Description
Where There Be Dragons - Gap Year Program in Central America
Where There Be Dragons takes gap year students on a hands-on adventure through Central America in order to gain a deeper understanding of social and environmental change in Guatemala, Nicaragua, and El Salvador.
Students engage in independent learning, community service, and communal living in order to learn about grass-roots activism and environmental changes in Central America. The program begins in Guatemala, where students live with Mayan families still hanging on to their indigenous culture. This gives students the opportunity to engage in experiential learning with the locals by getting involved with a variety of community service projects.
The program continues to El Salvador with a brief stop in Honduras before continuing onto Nicaragua. Gap year students will learn about the history of these countries, along with conflict and revolution. Students will have the opportunity to learn about contemporary issues as well, in order to properly learn about the progression and modernity of Central America.
