Dog Sledding: Boundary Waters to Texas Big Bend Leadership Semester
- United States of America
About Program
Travel through two spectacular and dramatically different regions of the country and acquire an extensive range of outdoor skills and a broad understanding of each area’s environmental and ecological challenges along the way.
In the Northwoods of Minnesota, dogsled and cross country ski during a winter of spectacular extremes. Bright, crisp days, the muffled stillness of the fallen snow, the wonder of the Northern Lights, the mournful howl of the Timberwolf and so much to learn that night comes far too quickly. Then, trade in the cold temperatures and head down to the great American Southwest and backpack through the desert of Big Bend and paddle the canyons along the Rio Grande.
This intensive 10-week leadership semester course is an outstanding opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the rugged landscapes of the Rio Grande and Boundary Water wilderness areas, and can also complement a traditional college education with a focus on leadership development.
