Suatukala Sdn Bhd

Suatukala is a volunteer-based community development initiative on the tropical island of Langkawi, Malaysia. Our name translates into "Once Upon A Time" in the local Malay language. We want to expose, inspire and encourage the local Langkawi community to uncover and tell their own stories, as a way to both preserve their cultural heritage and also express their contemporary definitions of who they are.

Our work focuses on exposing local residents including children and youth to the variety of ways in which tales can be told - from traditional forms like song, dance, theatre and spoken word, to design, architecture and even the culinary arts. We do this by getting skilled folks in their respective fields to conduct workshops, performances and exhibitions/installations that are free of charge for members of the local community.
