Working Abroad in Australia

I began this program from another website, and I sure am glad I did! From the very beginning Rose was very informative and answered all the questions I needed to know. It has been a very long journey to get to where I am now departing for Australia tomorrow! There are many steps to take, and this group has helped me every step of the way. Thank You Alliance abroad for everything you have done for me and giving me this life experience I will never forget

What would you improve about this program?
the only negative thing I could say about this group is waiting for the job placement.
Response from Alliance Strategies

Hi Amber,

Thanks for the great review and for taking the time to share your thoughts. I worked with Rose when she was in our Melbourne office and she is awesome! Glad that you also found her fantastic to work with and we're so excited for you to come to Australia so soon.

We understand that it can be challenging to wait for that great placement to come through but we hope that you now also agree that the wait was worth it to be going to a great city with a fun opportunity with a top tier employer. We try to work with each person's timeline and when we all work as a team, it usually works out - Like in your case!

Let us know anytime if you have any questions. You are coming at a great time with the warmer weather just around the corner and many fun festivals already in motion!

Best wishes,
Anita

The move to Sydney

The biggest difficulty i've encountered so far was finding an accommodation which suited me perfectly. It takes a lot of time, searching and hunting but in the end there will always be something. The city is just fantastic and incredibly easy to get around! Within the first week it felt like home and I feel like I've been living here for years. Found accommodation just a 5 minute walk from work and 10 minutes from the city centre. Im so happy here and everyone is so friendly and welcoming. I have already made friends which i'll keep for life and makes the transition movement so much easier. A big highlight was meeting everyone from alliance abroad. Were still in contact and meeting up regularly. It nice having people who have gone through the same thing and were all in the same position. Im so happy I've done this and couldn't imagine what it would have been like if i hadn't.

What would you improve about this program?
I would say it was a quite expensive but being here in a stable job is reassuring and i've seen the struggle people go through coming out here to find a job so having one secured before arrival is definitely the best option.
Response from Alliance Strategies

Hi Alex,

Great to hear you are loving Sydney and that you’ve adjusted easily and found the people there friendly, helpful and welcoming. Your accommodation sounds great to enable you to walk everywhere including easily going to work, to the city and to all the other fun things in Sydney!

Thanks too for sharing your thoughts on finding accommodation. We have seriously taken your feedback and others’ comments into consideration and have already hired a Housing Coordinator to provide personalized and in person support to each person arriving into Australia within their first few days of arrival. We hope to directly and quickly address each person’s concerns and needs. Hopefully this will make the transition even more smooth for everyone!

Awesome to hear too that you’ve made some great friends through the program! We’re really pleased to see you doing well: Thanks for the photos too! Looks like you’re enjoying the beach and all the cool festivals already too. Keep in touch!

Best wishes,

A ROSE by any other name....

...Would still not be this girl!!! Rose is amazing. There were definitely a lot of bumps starting this process, but she really helped me navigate through it. Rose was always a call/Skype/email away and always quickly responded and answered my incessant questions. For months. Now that I'm in Australia she still checks up on me and want to see the latest pictures of what I'm up to. No clue what she's making, but she definitely deserves a raise! I should also add that Nina has also been really great since I got here. Thank you ladies!

What would you improve about this program?
Finding adequate housing has been difficult. I was found a job in the Blue Mountains, which does not have the same housing options as the city. I haven't seen 1 available place in Medlow Bath, so anyone working at the Hydro Majestic has to commute. Since the Australia Hospitality Program is so expensive, it would be very helpful if they would have also secured housing.
Response from Alliance Strategies

Hi Natasha,

Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback and experience. We're really pleased to hear that you have had such a positive experience with our team! We'll make sure to let Rose and Nina know that they are doing a great job!

Glad to hear that you've already found housing now but we really appreciate your comments and have now moved forward to hire on a Housing Coordinator. This person will fully dedicate time, experience and efforts to assist with this specific part of the program. We hope that this will provide lots more help and insight for each person now.

Have a great experience here in Australia!

WORST COMPANY EVER!! SCAM

This company is seriously the worst company ever, They say they will help you with housing and jobs but once they receive your money or once you are in Australia, they really don't care about you.

I joined the event program, paid $3500 and they set me up with a telemarketing job. If you do work Alliance Abroad, and they offer you a job make sure you know what the job is, because they sugar coated my job making it sound like it was an event job but in truth it was a telemarketing job, I didn't even get to participate in one single event. I traveled all the way to Australia, found my own housing (they say they'll help you but all they do is send you a couple of links to some websites). They said they have a headquarter back in the states, but its a phone number that is directed to Australia. Pretty much its 2-3 people running this scam. This company made all their websites/facebook professional but their ethics are horrible. DO NOT TRUST THEM.

These event/hospitality jobs that they find you, you can easily go on seek.com.au and find better paying jobs yourself. Seriously they want you to join this program and they advertise it as "Paid Internship". For one, you only get paid $1500. Everything is so expensive in Australia that there is no way you can afford to live off of $1500 unless you're slumming it and having one meal a month. The housing itself is $1200.

I have testimonials not only from me, but from other people who are in this program. All of the people I talked to in this program said they were unhappy with the program.

All of the other reviews I wouldn't doubt if they wrote it themselves. Because I know for a fact I was THE FIRST PERSON FROM THE EVENT/HOSPITALITY PROGRAM to go to Australia. So I honestly don't know how they have reviews from other people when I was the first one there.

If you want to go to Australia and do not want to spend $3500 and not get scammed you're more than welcome to message me and I will help you with everything. This is how serious I am about this horrible program!

Response from Alliance Strategies

I’m sorry to hear that your experience was not positive with us. It’s disappointing that we did not have a chance to discuss your situation more thoroughly and that there may have been some misunderstanding about our program inclusions, job duties, housing and more. There are actually many people in our hospitality program and they have really enjoyed our program too (feel free to contact the people below with their reviews and they are connected on our Facebook page too). The event program is separate from the hospitality program and while you were our first participant in that program, the others have been learning a lot and enjoying their experience very much.

It is very unfortunate that your expectations didn’t align to what the program was able to offer. If you would like a further discussion about what happened, I’m happy to discuss this further with you.

Best wishes,

Great experience!

This is my second time in Australia and I'm so happy and so lucky to have this opportunity!
My first time was in 2007-2008 and after that I really wanted to go back but thought that I wouldn't have the opportunity.
I worked for more than 5 years in 2 different hotels (front desk) and last year I wanted some changes. I was working part time in a company but I was thinking to go abroad more and more everyday.
So the day that I found out about this program I was thrilled! Of course I was still a bit cautious at first, I was like "it seems too good to be true".
The strongest point of this program of course is that you have the job before you arrive! For me that was what made me go! For years I wanted to go back to Australia but it felt so unsecured to go there without a job!

Anyway, I've been working at the Mangrove Resort hotel in Broome, WA, since March and it is a really great experience! I'm glad to discover the west coast this time! I'm working 40 hours per week on average so that's good! I try to enjoy my days off as much as I can: going to Cable beach, doing tours around (Cape Leveque, Willie Creek...).

I would like to say a big thank you to Laura at AAG! She was always able to reassure me when I had doubts before arriving in Australia and really friendly!
Big thank you also to Rose and Anita!

What would you improve about this program?
As other people said already...it's quite expensive!
I guess that some people would love to enter the program but can't afford it! I know that AAG needs the money to keep finding good partners though...
I paid for the 6months program. I would love to have another job after that but I'm still hesitant because of the money...!

My Time in Austarila

First think I would Like to say is a big THANK YOU to Alliance Aboard Australia and the great staff (Anita and Laura) for helping me to get here from start, very encouraging and supporting though out.

The thing I like about Alliance aboard is that they are able to find you a job before you set a foot in Australia, taking the hassle of having to wait and such for job while your here, for both of my jobs they found me I was placed in 5 hotels, for my first 6 months I was placed in Perth in Hilton hotels as a food and beverage attendant which is great for my resume for when I return to the UK. Perth was a great experience and such a different and relaxed environment and amazing weather, the best thing about Perth was the views you would get from the river looking over the city and from kings park, the best beaches I have ever seen!!

My second placement was in Sydney in yet another 5 star hotel in the same role, for Pier One harbour hotel with great views of the harbour and bridge, right next to the opera House. I would say I love Sydney more as I'm a city boy! while at this job I decided I wanted to stay another year as I was enjoying my experience in Australia way to much, so I decided to find a regional job on a farm for 3 months to gain a second year in Australia.

Once I compete my work 3 months I will defiently use Alliance Abroad Group again for a 3rd Plaement...

What would you improve about this program?
I would say the program itself is a bit on the costly side however you can easily make that back in a weeks pay or so.

Best experience of my life!

I highly recommend using Alliance Abroad to come to Australia! I was VERY hesitant to go through this company at first because of the lack of reviews and information online. I wasn't sure if the company would be a scam or not, but I took a chance and used them. I am SO glad I did this! I cannot say enough praises about AAG and how amazing my time in Sydney has been. I can say hands down this has been some of the best months of my life.

AAG was great at preparing me to go to Australia - I made a last minute decision to move here, and they helped me prepare in less than 2 weeks! Getting my visa was very easy, and it was a huge relief showing up in Australia knowing I already had a job lined up. During my first few weeks in Sydney, I met so many backpackers who had been searching for jobs for weeks on end, and a lot of them eventually ended up leaving Sydney to find work elsewhere. Needless to say, already having a job with a reputable company was a blessing!

I have noticed a lot of people have complained on here that AAG doesn't help you secure housing, but they make that very clear from the beginning. However, Anita and the other staff went out of their way to email me as much information as possible to assist me in finding housing once I arrived. They did a great job of checking in with me to make sure I was doing okay. I had no problem finding housing, and I absolutely love where I live!

I have also noticed a few complaints that using AAG isn't worth it because of the high cost. I completely disagree with this - the staff at AAG have significantly influenced my experience in Australia. When I first moved here, I was having some issues at my workplace, and AAG acted VERY quickly and professionally to help me fix those issues. If it wasn't for AAG, I definitely would have left the job and probably left Australia with a negative experience. Because they helped address the issue, the problems in my workplace were resolved, and I ended up staying with the company for 6 months, and had an amazing experience! Most importantly, Anita, Rose, and Ash are all available to help any participant 24/7 via text, email, or Skype, and they are always willing to listen to any concerns voiced. The contracts they offer are also worth the price you pay - I have interviewed for so many jobs on my own in Sydney where the hours are ridiculous, the pay is low, and where training isn't paid for. A lot of companies try to pay cash in hand here, so the pay isn't as high in those instances. I think a lot of these companies take advantage of backpackers, so it is definitely necessary to be well versed in workers laws here and what pay you require. AAG makes sure participants don't have to deal with any of those issues! You are set up with a minimum 30 hours per week at your host company, and these companies are very reputable and actually care about their employees. You won't have to worry about being taken advantage of!

I am so thankful for AAG and highly recommend them to anyone and everyone. I am having the time of my life in Sydney, and never want to leave! Beyond loving Australia, this experience also opens up the door for you to travel to nearby countries! With our close proximity to Southeast Asia, I have so far traveled to Thailand and Cambodia with the money from my first job AAG helped me get.

I can't say it enough - come to Australia with AAG - you won't regret it!!

What would you improve about this program?
It would be awesome if AAG organized meet ups in other cities besides just Melbourne. I have made friends very easily in Sydney, but would have loved to connect with more AAG participants as well.

I also wish there was a deferred payment option for the second placement. They offer a deferred payment for your first six months, which is great, but it would be nice to have the option for both terms so you can fund your time here with your tax refund you get at the end. I do understand though that this is difficult for AAG to make happen because they do need funds going into their business, but it would be neat if they could somehow offer this in the future!

Melbourne

The staff was so unbelievably nice, supportive and encouraging! They really knew how to help you prepare for interviews. I would suggest entering the program as far in advance as possible so that you have a job upon arrival. I did not use the housing services but I am sure they would be great and safe!

Alliance Abroad Working Visa

I never made it the full year in Australia but I just want to say that Anita from Alliance Abroad was awesome! She was always quick to reply with answers in e-mails, and was full of knowledge. I am a little late in writing the review but please let her know how amazing of a job she is doing! Definitely will tell people about Alliance Abroad!

Awesome time

Everything was great. When I was being helped with selecting an apartment and which area of the Melbourne to choose the program coordinator was very helpful and helped make me aware of all the options I had and gave me excellent ideas about each area of Melbourne as well. So that was a great help right off the bat.

Work was awesome and I felt very taken care of with my practice interviews for the Grand Hyatt and making sure that I was well prepared for what everything would be like.

Day to day difficulties, I would say internet was the main one. For the first few months before buying a portable wifi modem I was relying on free wifi ports throughout the city (starbucks, the state library, etc) so I would say that was a main one.

Other than that I feel like everything was great, being linked up with someone to do my taxes for me after my leaving was also awesome! It just removes that one extra thing before I leave and made things much easier on me.
