Take this Trip!

This was a trip of a lifetime. Don't get me wrong, I have traveled a lot, but no other trip has given me the opportunity to change my thinking about an entire religion. This trip was focused on service and experiences in Morocco. It had nothing to do with religion, but being around such a beautifully faithful, kind, loving people was a joy. All of the negative influence of the media was quickly washed away. This is what was happening to me in my heart while I was shopping in the market for awesome souvenirs and very fresh food, when I was driving through beautiful countryside or riding a camel in the Sahara, while I was being served my new favorite foods in amazing Riads or Dars, while I was walking through and learning about the ancient madinas, while I was learning how to write my name in Arabic or pronounce words and phrases by a kind and patient (and funny) teacher. The Moroccans are pleased to share what they have. Their culture is old and beautiful. I would highly recommend taking this trip. I, in fact, hope to take it again myself!

What would you improve about this program?
I am a quick paced traveler. I rise early and go to bed late while in a different country. I want to see as much as possible and experience everything I can. Others do not feel this way perhaps so my feedback may not apply to everyone. I would have had less down time. There wasn't a whole lot, honestly but I would like to use every minute for something new. When traveling I have a simple motto, " I will rest when I get home." I can't wait to get back and learn some more!

Our time in Rabat

As a mother/daughter team, we had a wonderful experience in Rabat. We volunteered at the Laila Meryem Orphanage and worked in the infant rooms. Our volunteer work was rewarding and our time spent discovering Morocco was excellent. MCAS did everything to help us make our housing and travel as pleasant as possible. My Arabic teacher was patient and very attentive to helping me learn the language and culture. He provided a thoughtful but practical structure to the lessons. I recommend them very highly and would be happy to spend more time there with MCAS as our guide!

Week crash course

One day AbdaSallam took me out of the classroom and into the.souk. I was obliged to ask directions from local people and ask shopkeepers about the products they were selling. In the fish market I was blown away by the variety of different fish, they even had shark on display. It was a brilliant tactic it put theory into practice in double quick time. The local people were really friendly and very eager to help. I was embarrassed at one point as a lovely old lady wanted to personally take me to the train station my "imaginary" destination. The lesson left a big smile on my face.

What would you improve about this program?
Perhaps vidio and more modern teaching aids.

MCAS offers a wonderful program

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with MCAS in Rabat. I studied Arabic privately while there and, as such, was able to tailor the class to my particular needs. The support during my stay was exceptional as was the family stay. I would not hesitate to recommend this program to anyone looking to improve their Arabic language skills while living in a fascinating city in Morocco.

Arabic Calligraphy with MCAS

I really think that it was a very friendly experience and convenietly located next to our stay in the Riad.
I would highly recommand to take more hours through out the week. The school opens up itself to a wonderful vibrant market inside the medina having little alleys which are just amazing to walk through.

What would you improve about this program?
Very friendly staff and incredibly willing to help;

Solid Course

This was a very good course that fulfilled our academic needs. My girlfriend and I found Ali to be very helpful, his staff welcoming and our teacher more than professional. The centre is located in a great spot next to the old city, and they sorted out timings that worked around our work schedules. We didn't stay in accommodation through the center - instead we found an AirBnB - so can not comment about the MCAS housing. All in all, a quality course with friendly staff in a relaxed environment.

Wonderful Introduction to Morocco.

MCAS was definitely an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime (though I wish to go back!) opportunity to not just see a country for it's beauty as a tourist, but to immerse oneself with the culture and people and to do meaningful work in the community. Studying a language has never been less dry and the stakes are raised by putting you in sometimes challenging situations that require real cross-cultural interaction. The feeling of accomplishment that you walk away from MCAS with is something rarely found at the end of vacation. Your time with MCAS will definitely be a break from whatever your current life is, but it will not be a vacation removed from the realities of Morocco. It will be a crash course to modern life in Morocco and you will not only learn some Arabic, but much about Moroccan culture, society, and people, and by doing so a lot about yourself. MCAS staff treat you like family and are the embodiment of hospitality. You will never forget your time in Morocco.

What would you improve about this program?
I think perhaps more variety of language-learning activities would be great, and in our particular case more time directly working with Refugee issues would have been awesome.

A Million Thanks to Y'all

Coming home from Morocco, I was bombarded with questions about my experience and everything that I did while in the beautiful country. The most popular question was: "What was your favorite thing about Morocco?" and my list is endless, but my favorite of favorite things was the people -- especially Ali, Jihane, Fatima, and Abdu! (The food is my second favorite) Ali and Jihane did an amazing job with the logistics of the whole trip and Abdu was the best foreign language teacher I've had. I was very nervous about learning a new language, especially one as complex as Arabic, but Abdu made the class interesting! Ali and Jihane were constantly by our side, making sure we were practicing our Arabic, but obviously helped when we couldn't communicate with others. I was sad to leave in the end, especially since it was such a short trip, but I have lovely memories of the country and the culture and I wish to one day be back to share more laughs with everyone from MCAS. All the thank you's would not suffice to express my gratitude and maybe one day, I can return the favor and host y'all in Texas!

What would you improve about this program?
The Arabic classes were a little long. I understand that because it was such a short program the classes needed to be more intensive, but maybe having a break in between or shortening the classes a little would help with concentration and retention.

2 Weeks with MCAS

My entire experience could not have been amazing if it was not for this program. I really liked Rabat becuase it is a cool mix of old and new things. The people were very friendly and accommodating.
I really liked the classes and tailored to meet my needs and I asked for what I wanted and I was pleased with the program and the teacher :)
The teacher was very patient attentive and very enthused about teaching me. My overal impressions was really great and I loved the entire program from day 1 to the last.

I was placed with a wonderful host family; who welcomed me to their huge house. They were very lovely and very concerned and they were to me more of a family than a host; they were good to us with the other students and kept us entertained. They enhanced my experience in Morocco to a great level, and the house was majestic.

The Staff in MCAS were really great ; the program director, the program coordinator the teacher made my stay unforgetable. They were always willing and ready to help and very supportive and welcoming.
I would highly recommand this program to anyone seeking to learn Arabic.
