About Program

The Rescue Center is dedicated to protect and help endangered Costa Rican wildlife indigenous to our beautiful country. First and foremost, our goal is to ensure the welfare of injured animals and help them recover from their physical and psychological wounds.

We staff a team of experienced veterinarians who work at our on-site hospital in addition to the thousands of volunteers from around the world who have helped us over the past 10+ years.

We rescue, rehabilitate, and when possible release the animals back to their natural habitat. We are privately owned and receive no government helps financially. The passion, dedication of our staff, and generosity of our volunteers, interns, and donors make everything possible.

Register and Sign-Up now to work hands-on with many different animals including but not limited to monkeys, sloths, ocelots, coyotes, kinkajou, coati, raccoons, possum, parrots, macaws, and other exotic birds.

Better than the expected

I solo traveled to the Rescue Center because I wanted to grow personally and professionally (i study biology and I want to work in this field). My expectations were already high, you can see from the social platforms how many beautiful animals they have, the huge pool volunteers can use whenever they want, the big house where all the volunteers spent the days etc, but it was certainly better than expected. A life changing experience that I would recommend to everyone. The staff really want you to be the most comfortable and having the most fun possible, they even organize each week a trip to visit a little bit of Costa Rica.
A perfect holiday

Amazing experience

One of the most amazing things I've ever experienced!
All people who work at the Rescue Center Costa Rica are very attentive, happy and the place is incredible!! The veterinary team works hard everyday to heal, rehabilitate and reintroduce to nature as many animals as possible, which makes the place even more beautiful!!
The zoo is very well maintained and the animals always seem to be happy!

If you have the opportunity to go, don't hesitate!! Just go and enjoy the real Pura Vida vibes.

What was your funniest moment?
The funniest moment at Rescue Center Costa Rica was the animals release moment!! 🤩

An excellent experience for animal lovers

An excellent experience to get up close and personal with a large range of exotic animals including sloths, capuchins, coatis, an ocelot and many more! A great experience for animal lovers! The days are organised with food prep, cleaning enclosures, feeding and enrichment. The staff are all excellent and willing to help with anything you need. Highlights of my time at the rescue include Monday night bachata/salsa class, a great swimming pool, movie nights and night walks! P.s they have a really cute dog called Luna!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Bring Wellington boots or good work shoes! It can get muddy especially in rainy season!

Learn about native Costa Rican Wildlife

The Rescue Center rescues and rehabilitates an array of local wildlife. They even release animals back into the wild which is amazing, and I had the opportunity to join the team when they did a few of the releases. The coordinators make the project amazing, as they are knowledgeable and friendly. It is a great experience to be able to work so closely to wildlife, whilst also learning about the animals and the threats they face in the wild. They are working super hard to try and prevent the exotic pet trade!

What was your funniest moment?
Watching the sloths have their daily tree climbing exercise.
