About Program

Our teaching assistant volunteer program in Jamaica is a fantastic chance to develop your passion for teaching and gaining international work experience. By the end of the program, you will have an in-depth understanding of the local curriculum and be granted an invaluable insight into the different regional and cultural approaches to education.

This project is well suited for creative volunteers with strong initiative and an enthusiasm for teaching. Volunteers assist with lesson planning, teaching, and provide one-on-one support to students, whilst building rewarding relationships with the students and the local teachers and fulfilling a true need within the classroom.

In addition to this, you will have the opportunity to explore and experience attractive and local hot spots in Jamaica.

Lies and Deceit

I signed up thinking I would be doing some sort of teaching and lesson planning! Both my parents are teachers! I really felt like I could make a difference and help. I did nothing of the sort, all I did was paint a jungle gym and do maintenance work around a school yard. I could have stayed in Maryland and done so. My issue was the lack of communication. The first day was fine as it was a holiday. The entire week was the same thing. I grew tired of doing so and was removed from the program.

Pros
  • I got to leave America
  • See a new part of the Island
Cons
  • No communication
  • Lies
  • Strict rules
