Best Internship experience

I will definitely recommend StandOut to you!
I come from Penn State and it is my first time to come to HongKong. I have no friends and no family there, but I am lucky that I choose StandOut. They make HongKong like my second family. StandOut holds lots of events for internship such as Tram Party, Boat Day, BBQ Party, One-day Shenzhen Trip and Night Drink.
My major is actuarial statistics and they help me to get the internship opportunity in a very large and famous insurance company. I really gained valuable working experience and learned lots of technical skills.
StandOut takes care of my safety and living. I live in Sheung Wan which is the central and most safety place in HongKong. The transportation is very convenient and the room is exactly same with the pictures that on their official website.
Samantha, the manager of the StandOut is very professional and responsible, and I believe that you will not regret to choose StandOut.

What would you improve about this program?
I think they did the best job! Nothing need to be improved.

Be whoever you want to be with StandOut Internships

For the most part of my twenties, I've only ever known two things: travelling and teaching. Sure, it's an idyllic way to spend your young years, and also a great way to give something back to the people who make it possible for you to experience their culture. However, I began to worry about my career. As much as I love and respect teaching, I knew I couldn't depend on it for my future. As somebody turning 25, I felt uneasy about my life - would I be forever typecast as a teacher if that was the only kind of work experience upon my CV? More importantly, was I too old to take up new training or internship opportunities? After all, we've all seen the 'Friends' episode where Chandler is a mature intern in a room full of vibrant University students. Fortunately, I met Sam and the StandOut team.

I got in touch with StandOut, explaining the stage of where I was in life, and they were quick to set up an internship consultation with me. Sam was great in this procedure. She explained to me that an internship isn't just for kids, many people use it as an approved way of making that necessary career change. Furthermore, I could easily use my teaching experience to make the next step into business and marketing. This really gave me a focus to the direction and wellbeing of my life, so much so I signed up!

For anybody who's ever given up their job, home and friends to pursue a new challenge, I'm sure you can appreciate how nervous I was to take on this challenge. I had finished my teaching contract, gave up my apartment and had said goodbye to the friends I held the most dearest. All to take up this internship. I can't tell you how uneasy I felt crossing into the border of Hong Kong, but I need not have worried as the StandOut team made me felt so welcome. Michele in particular gave me my new Octopus card, pre-paid mobile SIM card and helped me attain my new apartment the very same day. Furthermore, there was a tram party the same night that I was invited to!

To tell you about my opportunity, I am currently interning as a Business Development and Academic Manager for a online English tutoring service here in Hong Kong. My experiences and responsibilities have been so varied. I've been responsible for planning, editing and producing promotional videos. I've also been delegated the opportunity of producing online content to increase the visibility of our Facebook and LinkedIn profiles. As well as this, I've pitched business ideas to my old school in Guangdong, to sell them our platform to use. I'm happy to say that we've arranged a meeting here in Hong Kong to discuss business ideas. I've even slightly reverted into being a teacher again by writing grammar tips for our students and giving teaching demonstrations of our product to new users.

The best thing about being an intern is the amount of experience you can rack up for your CV and the pride you feel when you can say what you did. An internship can be so many things for you. Not only is it a blank canvas for you to be somebody new, it is a real-life experience of working in a business and finding out what your talent is. Whether you're a student looking to gain experience or somebody wishing to make a change of career, an internship is a valuable way of testing the waters and deciding if you have the determination to swim.

Don't let your past define you, make it your future. Be who you want to be and seriously think about an internship. It will give you valuable experience for your CV and will also give you a fantastic life experience too!

What would you improve about this program?
Create opportunities for the interns to become involved in the local grassroots community to build up CV experiences, such as charity work or fundraising for local causes.

Best Internship Experience Abroad

StandOut offers a very personalized service to their interns from the beginning until the end of internship. Standout was really helpful during the application process and supportive throughout the internship to make sure you are doing alright in the company.

My eight-week internship in a global technology company has allowed me to learn more about doing business in Asia. I did competitive intelligence on a specific product covering South East Asia, whereby I was required to present my findings to the senior management of the company. We had monthly business updates, as well as a company-wide art jamming session to get to know everyone better.

Overall, this internship has exceeded my expectations in terms of the quality of service offered by Standout, as well as the tasks given by my host company.

What would you improve about this program?
It would be great if StandOut could offer a few speaker events such as "How to do business in China"

Excellent Internship Experience

From the start of the programme StandOut was very efficient making the process straightforward, helping at every stage. All the correspondence and information I received prior to leaving was useful and personal, support with my interview and a Skype of general queries was extremely valuable.
I did an events and marketing placement at the British Chamber of Commerce, as an example of the calibre of placements. Samantha (the managing director of StandOut) ensured we would not just be making tea and photocopying and I certainly wasn't! I was exposed to all the aspects of the events and marketing teams and I was really involved from day 1. I took on my own projects lasting the length of my internship.
My accommodation was in a central location close to my place of work and it was clean and I had a private bathroom and a small kitchenette.
One of my favourite parts of my experience was the weekend activities such as a boat trip, tram party, hike and beach bbq and day trip to Shenzhen. Samantha and Michelle came with us and were great company and a lot of fun. It was a great way to meet the other StandOut interns and make friends to do things with during my time in Hong Kong.

What would you improve about this program?
StandOut was good value for money compared to other similar programmes, however the experience overall was not cheap. The work I chose to do was unpaid, but with a bonus towards transport costs, I would have preferred to do paid work but I appreciate paid placements in the events industry are extremely hard to come by.
StandOut was more focused towards professional development with the training course and support, other programmes had more social activities in the week, so that would have been good but I must say I enjoyed the activities at the weekends very much and the focus I had in the week on work benefited the personal development take away from the experience.

Highly Recommended Internship Opportunity in Hong Kong

StandOut offers a well-structured internship program and tailored each of internships specifically to the needs of the individual. The application process was very straightforward and the staff at StandOut was very helpful when responding to any enquires. Through the StandOut Internship program I was able to obtain a marketing internship with the leading expat insurance broker in Hong Kong.

The professional development training course provided a great introduction to working in Hong Kong. There were many useful workshops, which ranged from interview techniques and CV advice to business etiquette and Hong Kong culture. During the 2-day course, there were also talks by experienced professionals who shared their insights into working in Hong Kong and graduate selection schemes.

The 8-week internship has allowed me to develop some of the soft skills that are highly valued in many industries such as communication, presentation and team working skills. During my time with the company, I was involved with numerous projects. These included improving the company database and conducting an extensive market research project, whereby I was required to present my findings to the senior management of the company. Throughout the internship, StandOut offered regular mentoring/feedback sessions to ensure both the intern and the host company were satisfied.

Whilst the main focus of the experience is the internship, StandOut also organized regular social events such as after-work drinks, hiking and visiting the Happy Valley Racecourse.

Overall, the StandOut Internship program would be highly recommended to students wishing to gain valuable work experience abroad and would offer individuals a competitive advantage on a CV and in interviews. Furthermore, it will give you the chance to develop from a personal perspective and give you a clearer idea of the type of role/industry you wish to pursue in the future.

Great Internship experience in Hong Kong!

StandOut provides great networking and professional mentoring advice to find the best internship which most suitable for me. And StandOut had tailor made a five-weeks internship opportunities for me - The British Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong Internship Programme. Besides the daily editing website, sending out advertising emails for members about updating events, I have also took part in organising events and planning the rundown.

Overall, StandOut provides me a life-changing chance and helps me greatly in improving my CV writing skills, interviewing skills and get to know myself clearer in what I want to do in the future. I will definitely recommend StandOut to anybody looking for an interesting and useful internship experience.

What would you improve about this program?
It would be to be able to provide a paid internship, and also for the pre-work training, to provide a real experience for personal interviews and doing tests as if in assestment centres, to give us an approximate idea of how it would be in real life situations.
