About Program

EF Gap Year's Short-Term Programs are immersive, four-week experiences built to fit easily into your academic calendar. Choose from a variety of focuses and locations -- whether it's discovering the diverse cultures of four major European countries, exploring Costa Rica's ecosystems and collaborating with NGOs to make a sustainable impact, living like a local and learning the language in Spain or Japan, or exploring the past and present of two countries in East Asia.

Choose one of these programs or stack them onto other adventures, like your EF Gap Year or EF Gap Semester. We have programs running all year round, in the fall, winter, spring, and summer!

Popular Programs

Rome, Italy

Take four weeks to discover the diverse cultures of four major European countries. You will start off the program in London where you will meet your cohort and learn the fundamentals of global business in the world’s financial hub. Then, head to France to dive into the history of Normandy and explore the art and architecture of Paris. After France, spend a few days in Switzerland where you’ll get to visit the Alps and walk the historic streets of Lucerne. Finally, finish up your program in Italy

Exploring the streets of Tokyo

Live like a local in Tokyo while learning Japanese at EF’s International Language Campus. Travel to the iconic cities of Kyoto and Osaka with your cohort.

Zip Lining in Costa Rica

Set out on a month of pura vida: spend four weeks exploring Costa Rica's diverse ecosystems, developing leadership skills, and working with local NGOs on sustainability projects.

Students looking out over Malaga

Immerse yourself in Spanish culture and take your language skills to the next level while completing three weeks of language classes at EF’s International Language Campus in Barcelona. EF Gap Year Awards

EF Gap Year has awards of up to $5,000 for students in their gap year and semester-long programs. Various scholarships are available for leadership, blogging, videography, and photography. Over $50,000 of funding is available every year.
