Conserving Wild Bees and other Pollinators of Costa Rica Teen Expedition
- Costa Rica
About Program
Earthwatch Teen Expeditions are designed specifically and exclusively for 15 to 18 year olds, and are completely different to any other experience teenagers can have. On this expedition you will join the research team to investigate how threats to bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds will affect the critical pollination services they provide. You will collect and observe bees, capture and measure hummingbirds, and create a tree nursery. These animals provide essential ecosystem services and play a crucial role in the production of many fruits and vegetables. Join us in the mountainous tropical forest in San Luis de Monteverde as well as the pastures and forests along the coastal community of Puerto Jimenez in Costa Rica to understand how changing climate, pesticide use, and habitat loss or degradation threaten pollinator communities.
