Greece Adventure

I had an amazing time on my trip to Greece! I had the opportunity to explore several cities in Greece, including Paros, Athens, Santorini, and more. Everything went smoothly, and I got to see lots of new places with new people. At first, I was so nervous to go out of the country with no adult, just my twin sister and me, but it was the best experience of my life. The people I got to meet were amazing, and the boat day specifically was one of my favorite memories since I got to explore so many different islands and snorkel. I learned a lot, tried new things, and made experiences I’ll never forget. I would definitely recommend this trip to anyone looking for adventure and good people!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice to future travelers is to enjoy the experience you're in and get outside of your comfort zone.
Pros
  • New Experiences
  • Friends
  • Have Fun
Cons
  • You might feel nervous at first
  • Things don't always go to plan
  • You miss home

Greece and Italy Adventure

Going on Travel for Teens' Greece and Italy adventure was one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had. I got to travel to incredible places like Capri, Amalfi Coast, Rome, Athens, and Lefkada. As someone who hadn't ever been out of the country by myself, Travel for Teens allowed me to feel safe and confident about being in a country with people I had never met before. It was super easy to make friends, to feel safe with my councillors, and to have fun. I always look back on that trip as transformative (for myself), and the highlight of my summer. I think travel for teens did a great job with the itinerary, and also picking councillors that were very good connecting with the students. Overall, I had a great time being apart of Travel for Teens' program.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
I think the most surprising moment was looking down for the top of Capri and seeing the thousands of boats from so high up. I had never seen what Capri was and waa one of the coolest things I've ever seen.
Pros
  • Great Safety
  • Great Staff and People
  • Great Itinerary
Cons
  • Not that much cultural immersion other than taking monument tours

My time in Spain and Portugal

I had a lot of fun in Spain in Portugal. I went in knowing no one nervous that I wasn’t gonna meet anyone and not my friends, but I came out with friends that I still talk to, I had a lot of fun. We got to see very cool sites and eat good food. We explored different sites around Spain and Portugal, seeing old castles and cathedrals. We went on guided tourist through museums. During the trip, we had a very good mix of independence and time with the group like during lunch we were able to go with a restricted area and eat what we wanted.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
The most nerve-racking moment was leaving the airport without knowing anyone, but then I got to know people and I had a lot of fun and met a lot of new people.
Pros
  • Make new friends
  • Get out of your comfort zone
  • See new places
Cons
  • Can be nerves at first
  • Having a roommate

Such an amazing week!

Such a fun week, I got to learn a lot from the counselors, other teenagers, and the locals! It was so fun to get to experience the culture of a country that wasn't mine and it truly taught me so much about myself and the world around me. The counselors were so nice and helpful and it was so great getting to talk to them about their experiences. My parents were also very happy with communication that they received from the counselors during my time on the trip. They had lots of updates on the trip as well as pictures sent to them.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
The most nerve-wracking moment was paragliding and I overcame this by having fun and just going for it.

Fun trip

I had an incredibly fun time traveling to Spain and Portugal with TFT. My trip to Spain and Portugal was incredibly fun. The places we went to and things we saw and activities we did were all very fun and I ended even up enjoying things I thought I wouldn’t like just because the people around me and the environment was so great. The counselors definitely cared about our safety and I felt very safe and in good hands with TFT but they were still fun and nice and I bonded with them as well as the other kids. We didn’t have to spend too much money as the counselors paid for breakfast, dinner, and all the activites we did that weren’t optional. While it can seem daunting to be in another country with random teens you’ve never met it is incredibly worth it to go on a TFT tour and I have made many new friends from it. I especially recommend the Spain and Portugal trip because the beautiful beaches, incredible museums, and the architecture and food all came together to give me an unforgettable experience.

We Love TFT

This Travel for Teens review is from a parent's perspective. My daughter took 4 trips for a total of 68 days (three summer and 1 winter). I cannot say enough good things about the company. I never had a moment of worry; communication was excellent, and hiccups were solved immediately. There is just enough oversight to ensure safety, with a balance of independence, so the kids can grow and learn during their trip. Never once did I feel like my child was put in an unsafe position.

We learned that while every trip is great, picking the right trip for your child is important. My daughter absolutely loved the 30-day European trip. Truly an experience of a lifetime. Noah, the trip director, stands out as a true asset to the company. My daughter loves immersing herself in the culture, and this trip was great for that. She also enjoyed paragliding, which added a special touch of adventure. Don’t be afraid to call and ask specifically about the trips. Each trip does have a personality. My daughter’s least favorite (but still wonderful) trip was one that had too much beach time for her (which happens to be one of the most popular trips).

Tips learned from the 4 trips:
Group flights are nice, but you do not “need” to be on them, particularly for older teens.
My daughter never felt the need to spend excessive amounts of extra money. The activities kept her busy. There was always ample time to buy a few trinkets.
Pack some snacks or grab some at the destination. My daughter was extra hungry due to the high level of activity.
Bring a handheld fan if you travel in the summer
For two trips, we took a family vacation before and dropped her off at the start city. This helped her adjust to jet lag, and the family had a nice stay.
My daughter always packed an old iPad in case she lost her phone.

I could nitpick small things about the company, but I absolutely give it 10/10. I encourage any parents to look at TFT as an option for summer travel.

Ultimate Europe (30 days)

I was worried that 30 days in Europe might be too long, but by the end of this trip I was ready to do a whole 'nother month. If you took every person on earth's summer and ranked them comparatively, I'm pretty sure mine would fall in the top .1% of all summers. We did everything from seeing iconic art, swimming on the coast of italy, paragliding off the side of a mountain (everyone sign up for this 10/10!), seeing taylor swift, to dancing in a german beer hall. There is something for everyone whether you love history, art, food, shopping, the outdoors, or sight-seeing. The counselors gave us so much independence which I appreciated, yet still when we needed support they were there to help. I will always remember all the friends and inside jokes I made.

What was your funniest moment?
During the first week we did a night cruise on the seine. Of course it was gorgeous, but I will always remember this moment because of how hard I was laughing from all the jokes my friends and I were making. When we finished, we wanted to see the eiffel tower sparkle, but the lawn was blocked off due to the Olympics. It was already late, so we only had this one chance to see it flash before we had to go back to the hotel. Everyone started running together to try and find a place we could view it and take pictures. This moment was hectic yet hilarious (we ended up being successful!).
Pros
  • independence
  • opportunities
  • friendships
Cons
  • can be a little tiring (still worth it)

Trip of a lifetime

Last summer (2024), I was lucky enough to join a trip with Travel for Teens (TFT) to Spain and Portugal, and it completely changed my perspective on travel—and on life. Experiencing a trip with TFT is a unique kind of love, one that only those who have traveled with this incredible company will truly understand. After my first trip with them, I fell in love with the company, the world, and the connections I made. I knew it wouldn’t be my last.

With over 140 trips in more than 40 countries to choose from, Spain and Portugal felt like the perfect choice. From the moment I arrived, I knew I was in for something extraordinary. Each day was packed with unforgettable experiences, from wandering through the vibrant streets of Lisbon to kayaking along the cliffs of Lagos. TFT has a way of crafting itineraries that balance adventure, culture, and pure fun like no other.

What makes TFT so special is the people. Our counselors weren’t just leaders; they became incredible role models who genuinely cared about us. Their passion and guidance made a lasting impact, and I know they’ll always be there if I need advice or support. But the real magic came from the friendships I formed with the other teens. From the first day, we were encouraged to step out of our comfort zones and truly connect. Through group activities, late-night talks, and shared adventures, we created bonds that feel like they’ve existed forever.

The hardest part of a TFT trip is saying goodbye. It’s incredible how just two weeks can feel like a lifetime with people you’ve grown so close to. Leaving always brings tears, but I wouldn’t trade those goodbyes for anything because they’re proof of how meaningful the experience was.

TFT, thank you for showing me the world, introducing me to lifelong friends, and giving me memories I’ll cherish forever. You’ll always hold a special place in my heart. Until next summer!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
During this trip, we had the opportunity to make our own paella. In the paella there was rabbit which I had never tried before. It definitely wasn’t my favorite, but I’m glad I tried something new!
Pros
  • New Friends
  • Experiences
  • Activities
