University of Nottingham NIngbo China is the first sino-foreign university in China. I worried about the teaching method might be different in UK before I came but actually I can feel no difference. They have all classes in English, even when the teacher and all students are Chinese. It is a very popular university in China. Thus, most of students are from different part of China. Also, there are many exchange students from many different famous universities. They build partnerships with universities like University of Edinburgh and so on.
The teaching quality is promised without a doubt, but I want to say that it is so wonderful to have British style education in a eastern country. China has is unique culture, Ningbo is a beautiful city. People here are really friendly and it's very safe, no matter inside or outside the campus. Here I met friends from all over the world.
BTW, UNNC also has master and Phd. prgrammes , maybe I will choose to continue my postgraduate program here, because I love this place.

What would you improve about this program?

I hope there are more and more international students, making the culture more colorful.

Learning in the University of Nottingham Ningbo China helped me develop a sense of confidence in my studies. Learning in a UK university in China teaches me how to think independently, dare to contend, and moreover, students potential could be fully unlocked in this university. Being a global university is an innovatory experiment for the University of Nottingham, and in return, it is definitely a fabulous for the international students to obtain and develop their willingness in finding a betterment of the educational experience.

What would you improve about this program?

I firmly believe that the University of Nottingham China Campus should offer more common space (like accomodation and study areas) for the current population. Its lack of capacity in infrastructure may probably lead to a lose of students' favorable impression.

It is really a wonderful experience to study at UNNC where I get the chance to experience different kinds of learning style and environment. UNNC has professional teachers to help students to develop abilities and skills from all aspects which are really important for my future study. My favorite memorty during my study at UNNC would be the time and effort that I spent with my teammates so that we could work on the project together.

Having lived in Asia for almost 15 years, Dr. Mary J. Ainslie specializes in culture and media throughout the region, with specific emphasis upon Thailand and Malaysia, as well as the wider intercultural links between the East and Southeast Asia regions. Previously Head of Film and Television studies at the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus in Kuala Lumpur, she moved to the Nottingham Ningbo campus in 2017 to further film and media studies, introducing several courses and developing creative arts.

What is your favorite travel memory?

Most of my research is based in Southeast Asia, specifically Thailand and Malaysia, so I have spent a lot of time in these countries over the past 15 years. In many of these societies, I was the only Westerner, certainly the only Western woman, and this gave me both a responsibility and an insight that has since enabled me to negotiate with people and in difficult situations particularly well. I have very fond memories of my time there, and treasure the friends I made.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

I know a lot more about China! UNNC has enabled me to really grow close to China and Chinese people, in particular moving beyond crude stereotypes to realize the complexity and the beauty that underlies this culture. This has been a very important part of both my personal and professional development and has been difficult at times, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

My Chinese students who visit our UK campus always come back with interesting and quirky anecdotes that I enjoy listening to, in a kind of reverse-culture shock that makes a lot of sense to me. For instance, "why is everyone obsessed with the weather!?!' and 'actually queuing is not as important as I thought it would be."

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

I am biased! I always favor my own School (International Communications) and Faculty (Humanities and Social Science), but this is because I know that our programs and my colleagues are second-to-none. Ultimately though, I would probably choose our yearly Mandarin summer school that is organized by our Language Center; it's a lot of fun and very useful.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

As the first UK campus in China, UNNC is a unique institution, offering a global environment and education. Within this, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Science is incredibly diverse and offers a educational and social experience that I am proud to be a part of. In particular, our staff-student ratio is impressive, and academics are from many places - I share my workplace with individuals from all continents in the world.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

There are many! But above all, I admire coherence, respect and structure; when these qualities are expected from and valued by both staff and students, success is guaranteed on all fronts. Indeed, my students value my punctuality and professionalism, understanding that what I give I also expect to receive.
