About Program

Costa Rica has it all: volcanoes, beaches (Caribbean and Pacific), rain forests, rapids, and a cultured capital city. It is exceptional for its ecological awareness and environmental sensitivity. Sometimes called the Switzerland of Latin America, Costa Rica has no standing army and is politically stable with democratic institutions. As a leader in conservation efforts, the nation has set aside 25% of its land for protective parks and reserves. This has made it a world-wide ecotourism center.

ISEP-Exchanges are extremely limited, as only four openings are available per semester. ISEP-Exchange placements are limited to one semester in duration.

Chances for placement in the ISEP-Direct program at UNA are excellent. Students are welcome to apply for semester or academic year ISEP-Direct placements.

This program is currently not being promoted on Go Overseas by its provider. Check with ISEP Study Abroad for the most up-to-date information regarding the status of this program.

Tropical Paradise

My study abroad experience in Costa Rica, at the Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica, was life-changing. From the first week I arrived, attending orientation with ISEP, I felt loved, taken care of and welcomed by all. I am extremely grateful for the support my study abroad program showered me and my classmates with. Day to day my ISEP coordinator, Ivelina would tell us about current and upcoming opportunities for us to immerse ourselves in. She was an incredible aid and support system. I got sick during my 5 months studying abroad and ended up being hospitalized for 5 days. Throughout the entire hosptalization, my ISEP coordinator played the role as my mother and stayed with me the entire time, making sure I felt safe and comfortable.

What would you improve about this program?
I would suggest to integrate more planned activities between the ISEP students and the locals.
