T&T was great!

It can be a nerve-wracking process if you don't have the right team of recruiters with excellent ties to foreign schools. But Jennifer was helpful from start to finish, and knew all my questions before I asked them. It was great to have someone working for me 24/7 here at home. I would totally recommend Travel and Teach Recruiting to anyone consider a gap year or a working holiday, or who just wants to experience how other cultures live.

A Month

Getting to Korea, wow.

First off, it was a HUGE SHOCK! regardless of wanting to go for such a long time, there was only so much you could do to prepare yourself. And let me tell you it will well at lest it was for me it’s gonna be nothing like you ever imagined. There are so many many tall buildings! And yes 99.9% things are written in Korean (funny that ae) which is still hard getting my head round. So many cafes and little shops it’s crazy

What they say about getting looked at is well um true. They are not doing it in a rude way at lest most them, are doing it out of curiosity being not Korean is really not common, lets just say 9/10 days I will see only Koreans (apart from at work but that’s different). In saying this there are so many that are so lovey and with there little bit of Korean and there little bit of english things work out good!

Everyone is in a huge rush, cars, buses, taxis and moter bikes/scoters are crazy, it wouldn’t be a normal day here without the fear of getting ramped into but one. They will no wait for you, best to be safe than sorry right? Speaking of taxis they are crazy cheap! In cheongju a 15-20min drive will cost you about $7 which blows my mind.

Shops are open crazy late here, not to mention the convenience stores open 24/7 which is great if you need anything haha.

Work is mainly good, feeling more and more confident each and everyday and the kids are so cute~~

As far as me i’m managing learning everyday getting a bit lonely as of late, but i’m sure it will pass. I am feeling pretty comfortable in my area so it’s time to go exploring!

Smooth Sailing!

Living in another country is always a very strange experience but luckilly my experience has been really good so far! I was given more than enough information by the recruiters and nothing came as a surprise. My job is great but at first I had a few communication issues with my boss, eventually though things were much clearer when my recruiter helped resolve the issues. Now I'm very happy! Living in a new place and new job is always going to have its ups and downs but luckilly for me it's been really big ups and only a few tiny downs!

What would you improve about this program?
I know some people don't like to be bothered too much but I always find it reassuring when I get frequent emails asking how I am and if everything is ok! It doesn't hurt to always be in touch, even if the person has no issues.

Great Experience so Far!!

So far everything has been great, my thanks to the guys who helped me through applying, securing my job and coming out here. Korea has been amazing so far, I love the people and really enjoy my job! Not to mention the food is good, sadly I might be putting on a few pounds haha

Each question I had was quickly answered and I didnt feel alone out here by my recruiter! So thanks for that. I hope to stay out here for the future as I love the lifestyle and people.

What would you improve about this program?
So far I have had no problems! Sometimes if I had a burning question that needed a quick answer it might have been nice to have a more direct way to contact the recruiter, maybe some kind of instant message/whatsapp way to communicate? Email is good for 99% of things but sometimes its good to have a more direct line

Just do it

It's been amazing journey so far in Korea! From the very beginning working with Travel and Teach to actually being in Korea and teaching. I've enjoyed every second of it. Niko was more than helpful in every step of my Journey, he found me a great placement and checking up on me. I've been able to experience a new culture and meet new people all while having a rewarding job. I've also been able to have a slice of home by joining a baseball league. If you're thinking about doing this program i'd definitely recommend it and like my title says, just do it.

ILS Korea

Shane was a great recruiter especially because I had a very unique situation and a short time period to find a teaching position. He helped me navigate all my obstacles of the visa process. I would definitely work with him again and recommend him to friends. However, only after being at the school for a few weeks and talking to other expat teachers did I know that the school I'm at is poorly rated among teachers because the teaching hours and expectations is significantly higher than specified and agreed upon.

Response from Travel and Teach Recruiting Inc.

Hi Lindsey,

It is my pleasure to have been able to help you through your situation in order to get you to Korea. Your mother and aunt were also a huge help, as we all worked together to get your visa documents taken care of when you were away. Team work!

As for the teaching, the first month or so is a transitional period which takes some time to adjusted to, especially as you do not have experience teaching ESL. Your TEFL certification will help, but a bit more time and experience in the class will also be beneficial. In the beginning, you might need some extra hours to get things figured out.

That all being said, if you are teaching more hours than you are contracted for, we want to know about this right away so that we can reach out to the school. We always make sure that our teacher contracts are being honored with regard to pay and hours worked. I have sent you an email, so I look forward to your response.

Amazing Experience

I applied through Travel and Teach just to see where I stood in the process of being able to teach and ended up with an interview a few days later. The whole process was so quick, but Shane was so hopefully throughout the whole process. He answered any and all of my questions and concerns which was so hopeful since my whole life did a complete 180 in a months time. He was so helpful and even after I landed in Korea he was available for me whenever a situation occurred. I definitely would recommend and have recommended Travel and Teach to my friends.

Very good recruiting agency and Niko is the best!

The process to become a teacher in Korea is hectic, but travelandteach helped the entire way. I was able to land a job without my TEFL, but I feel out of sheer luck and Niko. I would recommend that they would have a better checklist for new teachers based on the legal documents and timeline. It took me almost 3 months to procure every document and it was not cheap. Other than that is was a great experience and I hope I could use travel and teach in the future.

Love them a lot!

Thanks

What would you improve about this program?
Not recommend the apostille company, they were not helpful. Go to the SOS in your state.

Questions & Answers

Hi Cazedi, Unfortunately the Korean government requires people to have a BA in order to get a working visa.

HI Leila, There are only 7 countries that South Korea will grant teaching visas to. They are: Canada, the US, the UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. If you are not a citizen of one of these countries, there unfortunately is no chance for you to get a teaching visa for Korea.

Hi Angel, Yes, we are still active :) I don't see your application, so please feel free to submit it again here: https://www.travelandteachrecruiting.com/apply-now/

Hi Alicia, You only need to have a Bachelor's degree in order to teach in Korea, so age isn't a factor.
