About Program

To give the students some extra attention, the teachers of AHLC could use some passionate volunteers!

Hours and works of volunteers are very flexible. Contact us if you are interested. Our students are taught in English so the language barrier isn’t a problem.

Make a different in AHLC and hope AHLC can give you a memorable experience too.

Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger. You can read about the potential dangers of orphanage volunteering here.

Categories of Volunteers Needed:

1) Community Based Volunteers:
Volunteers who desire to come consistently (i.e., One day a week for two hours)

2) Short Term, overseas volunteers:
Volunteers who typically come from abroad, for a one to six month time period. They tend to have more time to serve than once weekly and might be able to commit to volunteering daily in one class, or taking groups from all classes. They could also be involved in maintenance work.

3) Teams:
Volunteers who come in groups for a short term experience in Cairo and wish to serve the school/students in some way.

4) Community Children’s programs:
Usually groups such as Boy Scouts, Pioneer Girls and Youth Groups who typically want to come and spend an hour with a class and do something nice for the children, such as read books to them, leave them gifts or commit to doing a project in the school.

Volunteer Opportunities

1) English Language Assistants:
English tutors are needed who can assist our students in their literacy skills. This involves spending a few days/hours a week sitting with AHLC students of different grade levels and reading with them, playing phonics or spelling games, creating booklets or assisting with their classwork or homework.

2) Other subject Assistance
If you are an expert in Numeracy or other subjects then we also need tutors who can help our students at different grade levels for all subjects. This can include enrichment in the Arts or Sports but also assisting in senior physics classes for example.

3) Maintenance/Repairs/Up-keep:
If you have any training in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, computer maintenance, painting and scraping, interior design or the like, we can utilize your skills and training in our school!

4) Mass Communications/Public Relations:
We would like to make our school, it’s mission, vision and needs known in our host country and around the world! If you have skills in IT or fundraising then we would love to hear from you.

5) Staff Development and Encouragement:
Many of our teachers have not had opportunities to be trained in the areas that they require. They welcome and greatly appreciate ANY help from those skilled in teaching and coaching.

6) Holistic Care:
Our students face many huge challenges in their lives due to the devastation of war, broken families, and poverty. We have counselors and psycho social workers among our staff. We would appreciate anyone with a burden for intercessory prayer, to come and walk around our campus and through our hallways and classrooms and pray for us as a community and a ministry. If you have counselling skills or medical skills and would like to assist our staff and students then we would like to hear from you.
