Volunteering Abroad in Jamaica

I liked how we were able to go into the schools in Jamaica and have a balance of the "fun touristy Jamaica" when we had our free day at the beach as well as some of the more impoverished areas so that the group could get the feeling that they had seen multiple perspectives of the nation, as it is not one-or-the-other. While it was with good intentions, it felt a little strange to have the cameraman come into my classroom. It made the kids crazier and I felt that I had been the reason that they were being crazier then. Overall though my experience with Jamaica Volunteer Program has been an excellent one.

This week has been very interesting. I have loved working at the school and the orphanage. I have really learned a lot about the culture of Jamaica and being able to see the differences there are from Jamaica to America. The orphanage was also a very good experience being able to care for the children there and play games. Overall, I had a very good experience with the projects and the accommodation.

What I enjoyed much was being part of the Jamaican people and getting a closer look on the Jamaican lifestyle. Not feeling like a tourist was a great experience and made a huge impact on experiencing a different country and it's culture.

The guest house was lovely. Louise, the house keeper and cook is very pleasant. Would have liked a more varied menu (fruits, vegetables) at the guest house and more suggestions on low cost activities.

while participating in the Jamaica volunteer program i completed 4 days at an orphanage and one day at the children s school. It was an amazing experience! i would recommend this program to anyone wishing for a safe vacation, volunteer experience, and anyone wishing to learn about other cultures. The children are amazing loving and eager to learn about you and where you are from. Mrs Evans and her family is very welcoming, and treat you like family. this was the first time i ever traveled outside the united states and was very nervous when i arrive but they made me feel comfortable and made me feel like i was home. The food they prepare for you is delicious and like nothing i have had before. the accommodations are very clean and comfortable. the tours i took were also good. i will definitely be returning!

I had the most amazing experience at the girls home and am so thankful to this program for arranging both my volunteering and opportunities to see some true Jamaican culture! I felt I was really making an impact on the girls at the home and even more so that they were left an impact on me. I was so happy to be able to help out the Aunties that do so much for the girls every day. I am also so thankful for the Evans family and the kindness they showed me during my stay at Smokey Manor. They were so helpful in planning activities and recommending the best places to go!

Jamaica Volunteer is a great opportunity for anyone wanting to help in the communities of Jamaica. It is a great learning experiencing that will leave a life lasting impact. Visiting the orphanages and salvation army was an incredible experience as well as the satisfaction of making a difference in the lives of children who are less fortunate.

Jamaica volunteer provide excellent service and catering during your stay as well as providing opportunities for fun activities and tours.

I would recommend Jamaica volunteer for anyone who is looking to volunteer. The experience will make you want to come back again!

This was a wonderful experience!! I highly recommend it to all. The children do nothing but smile when you enter the home and you can immediately tell the difference you make. All the children want is love and attention and it brings me so much joy knowing I can give that to them in my short stay.
The country of Jamaica has so much to offer, the scenery, the people, these memories will last a lifetime and I will most definitely return!
