EnglishWork Experience

Recently, I finished 3 years with the school Michael Kim placed me in. I couldn't have gotten luckier; my school ended up being the perfect fit for me with awesome students and coworkers. My city was the perfect size and location for my needs. To an extent, it almost felt like I didn't leave home!

I left for Korea in the midst of COVID in late 2020. Despite this added barrier, my process was relatively smooth (and fast). Michael Kim was an outstanding recruiter: he is prompt, helpful, and attentive. He answered any and all questions, ensured I had all necessary documents, transport from the hotel -- he really went the extra mile! At no point did I feel like I was missing something. If I wasn't sure about my next step, Michael was ready to help.

If you're looking for an A+ recruiter, I'd strongly recommend Michael Kim!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Don't be afraid to reach out for support, wherever you can find it. I also strongly encourage doing research. I stress this as it's easy to get lost in the allure of adventure. Moving abroad, especially to a new culture, can be intimidating. With good research and resources, it can help make the transition a little less daunting. It can also help ensure you're placed within (or as close to) the area best suited for you.
Pros
  • Prompt communication & replies
  • Excellent school placement
  • Consistent support through visa process

ENGLISHWORK

Michael Kim is an excellent recruiter , he is caring and patient. He will not only find you a good school but he will follow up and make sure you settle in well. he went out of his way to arrange airport pickup and transport to my city. I am extremely happy with the school he got me and would highly recommend his services. After settling in he still checked up on me and asked how I was finding the school , if I was happy there and how he could assist , I found this extremely kind of him as most recruiters forget you the moment you land.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
I could not withdraw money at the airport , of cause Michael came to the rescue but it was nerve racking, first time in south Korea and now I do not have money, scary moment.
Pros
  • green listed schools and good directors
  • school that follow the E2 rules and regulations
  • good salary
Cons
  • rural areas

My English work experience

English work has been the most wonderful recruiting agency I've come across. I worked with a recruiter by the name Michael Kim. He was very patient, professional and supportive. He took his time in every process that we had to go through. He got me a school of my preferred location. He was checking up on me through my entire flight duration and even sent people to welcome and fetch me at the airport and they bought me an express bus ticket to my city. In conclusion this was the best experience to have when moving to a new country.

Pros
  • Experience
  • Personal growth
  • Increased job satisfaction
Cons
  • Learn to be patient
  • Be very punctual

Review for Michael Kim

I have been in Namyangju-si, South Korea for a little over two months now and I am truly loving it here.

Michael Kim was very helpful in finding a school that would be perfect for me. He always responded promptly to my emails and was very helpful and friendly, even though I overloaded him with questions. Michael made sure I had all the necessary documents and I would recommend him to any teacher looking to teach in Korea.

The guidance and help I received from him made the process so much easier.

Pros
  • Good correspondence and support.
  • Placing you with a school that is perfect for you.
  • Friendly and helpful colleagues.
Cons
  • Lack of information shared for life outside of the school.
  • Strict workplace policies regarding visible tattoos
  • Difficulty working with a bank and transferring funds back home.

English Work - Great Experience (Michael)

I was very fortunate to come in contact with Michael from English Work when looking for an experience to teach abroad. He was always very quick to respond, and took all of my preferences into consideration. He went above and beyond to make sure that this experience was a smooth one for me. From setting me up with a school, to organizing interviews, to guiding me through the visa process, I felt supported through every step of the way. Moving to a foreign country can be very overwhelming, so I was very glad to have that support. He also checked-in to make sure everything was going smoothly once I arrive.

Pros
  • Quick response time
  • Knowledgable
  • Preferences taken into consideration

Experience with EnglishWork

The EnglishWork recruitment program for South Korea was extremely accommodating to me. I was treated as an individual and my specific requests were attended to. As a first time teacher, and female traveler I was hesitant regarding the decision to move abroad, however I was met with patience and understanding. I appreciated the time and efforts put into my personal requests. I was also assisted with more than employment options which allowed me to feel secure in my decision in choosing South Korea.

Pros
  • patient
  • Accommodating
  • Simple to use
Cons
  • Time difference

Hagwon Job Experience

Micheal was there throughout the entire process. Every question I had for him he would either instantly answer it or get back to me as soon as he could. Have to admit I thought he wouldn’t give me what I wanted. What like about the school is also that I don’t have to prepare any teaching materials which is what I asked for, my students were patient with me and are absolute sweethearts. I couldn’t have asked for a better recruiter. If you’re looking for a job, i recommend Micheal. I won’t disappoint you.

Pros
  • Location
  • Apartment
  • Communication
Cons
  • Miscommunication due to the langue difference

My experience with English work

My experience with English Work was great. I was really excited about the move to Korea but I've heard so many horror stories about the schools here so for me it was important to find a recruiter who was reliable and had a very good reputation. A friend of mine who was already in Korea suggested that I use English work.

She sent me their email address and I didn't hesitate to email them. Mr Kim got back to me and told me to email him again as soon as my documentation was ready. So, on the day they were ready I emailed him and we had an meeting on skype. Mr Kim did not take long to find me a school and then I had an interview with the school which was successful.

Mr Kim made sure that he provided me with the interview tips and tips on how to conduct myself during the interview. I was glad when the school offered me a contract and shortly thereafter, I was on a flight to Korea and I didn't have to arrive there and wonder around the airport because they had arranged for someone to fetch me from the airport, which was the best thing ever!

Mr Kim was patient and listened to my needs, even after I arrived in Korea, I emailed him crying and hysterical, informing him that I would only get my ARC in December, he assured me that it was not the school's doing but the backlog with immigration. I highly recommend them, I plan on using them again.

Pros
  • Mr Kim was very supportive.
  • Mr Kim listened to my concerns even offered me advice after I arrived in Korea.
  • Offered guidance with interviews and documentation
Cons
  • The different time zones made it a bit difficult to communicate
  • The language barrier was also a slight issue

Avoid at all cost

The E2 visa is very inconvenient you have to do health check and renew it every year plus you cannot get another job without your employer permission. Very limited in the amount of jobs you could take.
This is not a good program avoid at all cost. There is no holiday and the pay is not high. Go to some other countries except Korea. The cost of living is very high and it was not worth the time to finish the contract. The salary you get is almost all gone after you subtract the cost of living. The apartment was not clean there are some areas that have mold. During the interview with Michael he ask you weird questions like if you have any tattoos or not. No very professional, and ask to much personal questions instead of teaching questions.

Pros
  • No pros
Cons
  • No holiday
  • Rude boss and does not read your messages
  • Mold in appartment

Review on Korea

My assistance via Go Overseas was helpful. I do believe that I could have benefited more in terms of payment benefits compared to people who are doing a similar work to me, but my housing is above and beyond those who are doing a similar work to me. In terms of the school, I believe that in many ways I could have received more support. I really enjoy the city I stay in and overall, I am happy I had this opportunity, along with all the ups and downs. If you plan on coming to Korea, remember to do your research and be open-minded!
