Reliable

English work were extremely helpful from the very beginning. Straight after I sent my resume, Michael was in contact and set up an interview. He was able to find a school that matched everything I'd asked for.
From that moment I was supported on getting documents, booking flights and met at the airport on arrival. The constant support was reassuring.
My slp school was also very welcoming and supported me through ought my entire 12 months in Korea. I couldn't recommend them enough.
Very trustworthy and reliable, made me feel safe and answered emails very quickly helping with any concerns that I had.

Pros
  • Experience new culture
  • Travel
Cons

Teaching english in Cheongju

The placement and communication from Micheal were great and quick. Sometimes it's hard to make the decision to move to a different country and teach but it's really fun. I have made lots of friends, and some enemies too though. The process was quick too, but a little stressful. Settling in Korea is stressful as well since it's very different than the USA. Everything is way more secure so phone and bank plans take a long time to set up so you need to be patient. And always ask as many questions as possible.

The job is fun, I like my students and I get by with my little Korean. There are some community classes in some cities and lots of Facebook groups to meet new people. It's hard to make Korean friends unless you speak Korean. There also isn't that much vacation time and the hours are about the same as a full-time job in the USA.

I also recommend contacting some people who have left reviews and asking them for their opinion. And going for placement in a smaller city as well. It's so easy to travel in Korea and is so much fun to go see new places on the weekends. It's a very small country so it's very convenient to get around.

Pros
  • learning more about the world and building yourself
  • meeting people from different cultures
  • health insurance, walkability, safe
Cons
  • stressing out over how hard it is to get anything done in korea without jumping through hoops to identify yourself
  • little to no vacation to visit home
  • low pay making it hard to save money

Michael Kim was very helpful in getting me placed at a wonderful company with good benefits and available housing. I was given an interview with a school right away and found the perfect job for me! I was then assisted through the process of acquiring all the necessary documents to work here. I was picked up at the airport quickly and taken to a nice facility to wait out my quarantine time. Mr. Kim was available to talk whenever I needed him, and I felt very well provided for upon entering the country!

Great Experience!

I had a very good experience at my school. My coworkers were all very nice and helpful. Since I don't speak Korean very well, there were always questions from me and everyone was always willing to help me even if it was with google translate. My school had all the materials we needed and it wasn't hard to get used to the material. The students were lovely too. There's always the occasional difficult one but they were never rude, mean, or disrespectful to teachers. It is hard to say goodbye to the kids after being their teacher for a year. That's one of the more difficult parts of the job.

I would recommend this kind of job (hagwon teacher) to people with a passion for teaching. It is a tough job at times and you are expected to give it your all. There's always someone to help but at the end of the day, you are the one responsible to do the job. I wouldn't recommend the job to people who want to travel often around the country. You only get 1 week of vacation twice a year, so those were the only times that I had to travel. BUT those 2 weeks were spent to the max! As I said before, you will be working A LOT (sometimes even on the weekends), so those 2 weeks are very needed to decompress (you might not want to travel around but rest instead).

As for my experience with my recruiter, he was great! he gave me a list of tips to do better at my interview and they were super helpful. After getting my job offer, I had a lot of questions about my contract. My recruiter asked all my questions to the school and made sure that they answered them for me. He was always respectful and cheerful with me so I felt very comfortable communicating with him. Overall, my recruiter did a great job helping me find and get a job overseas. I wouldn't have gotten my job without him.

Pros
  • Great learning experience
  • Self growth
  • You can save money
Cons
  • Little time to travel
  • Short breaks at work
  • Stressful

Great Help

Michael Kim was very helpful finding me two jobs here in korea. He is a supportive and patient man always willing to go the extra mile.

Not only will he help you find the best possible school, but he is always available to aid in the complicated paperwork.

I was impressed by his patience the first time he helped me as it was covvid and there were many difficulties, but he helped me overcome them all. What is especially important for me is finding the perfect school and town and I was lucky enough to be situated nicely.

Thank you English Work and Michael Kim

English Teacher Alfred

Hello. My name is Alfred. First, I would like to say thank you to Michael from EnglishWork for his kindness and professionalism in helping me secure this wonderful teaching position in South Korea. This is my first time in South Korea, and it has been an interesting experience. So far, I have been here since the end of June 2022. I am currently working at an English academy in Tongyeong South Korea, where I teach English to students ages seven to fifteen. Working at this place has been a wonderful experience as I have met many great people and have taught my students who have been a delight to work with. In addition, I have had the opportunity to experience Korea and meet the locals. Building friendships and seeing new places here has been amazing. In addition, the food here is delicious. There is a variety of amazing dishes to try. Lastly, I would recommend South Korea as a potential location for English teachers who are serious about helping children learning English, also interested in experiencing a new culture.

Pros
  • Amazing scenery
  • Amazing people
  • Delicious food
Cons
  • Nothing

Teaching experience in Korea

Firstly I would like to thank Michael from EnglishWork for finding me a great school in Korea, he really took his time to find a school that suits my needs. So far the past 6months have been an incredible experience and I have pretty much enjoyed everything that Korea has to offer. I'm not complaining so that's a good sign, I hope it continues like that for the remainder of my contract. if you are looking for work in Korea I would happily suggest Michael and his team as they only work with schools that have a good reputation.

English work

First and foremost, Michael Kim at English work is amazing! He helped me with all the steps to be eligible to apply for the program.

He then set up an interview with a school within a week. And this school is really close to Seoul (where I wanted to be) but just far enough to miss the masses. He also gave me advice on where to live i.e. I'm from a small suburb, so I wanted something a little more central and he provided. You can ask for any location.

I highly recommend him and his program. He is very helpful and will set up a position for you very quickly if you meet the requirements.

Very helpful and efficient agent!

Working with Michael has been a pleasure. He made everything work out and has been very helpful throughout the whole process and after! He explained my questions very well and made the processes very clear to follow. As long as you follow his directions, everything will go smoothly.

Due to the pandemic, my school couldn’t open, and I was very worried to what will happen since my plans started to suddenly crush. However, Michael was able to put me back on track very quick and we were able to find a new school in an amazing location. It’s close to Seoul, as I originally wanted too.

For future teachers, I highly suggest to have your documents ready and always be ready to adapt. It’s important to do some research before too if you don’t want to get overwhelmed by the unknown to you culture. Furthermore, play some Hangul memory games. This way you can learn Korean characters in as short as 30 minutes. Of course, you need more practice to speed up your reading. However, this will help your basic survival skills such as reading a menu without pictures, reading location names in Korean, and much more~

Pros
  • Great communication
  • Brilliant efficiency
  • Superbly helpful
