About Program

Pathfinder Costa Rica uses a three-prong approach to differentiate from the average study abroad program. By traveling and living abroad, you will be able to identify unhealthy life patterns and most importantly, get guidance on how to create new habits and stick to them. Cross-cultural immersion leads to more complex mindsets, increased creativity, and mental resilience. The Path-Finding Guidance Model, "Sustainable Lifestyles: 9 dimensions of healthy living" course and the Arenal Volcano Excursion have been designed to create space for self-care, self-exploration, and self-discovery. These three features work in tandem to create a study abroad experience with intention.

Our study abroad program stands out with a customized approach that balances academic excellence with cultural immersion, supported by comprehensive resources and personalized attention for a truly transformational experience.

A one of a kind experience!

The Sustainable Lifestyles class I took in Costa Rica at Veritas was one of my favorite classes I have probably ever taken! It turned out to be l different from what I was expecting, but in a very positive way. This course taught me so much about myself and how I can make the most of the way I live my life. One of my favorite parts about this class is that it was very interactive and engaging. I loved getting to know my peers and sharing what we learned in class and researched on our own. I would recommend this class to everyone!

Pros
  • working on presentation skills
  • field trip included in the class
  • positive feedback from professor and peers
Cons
  • none

A connecting, reflective, life-changing experience

I took the Sustainable Lifestyles class while studying abroad at Universidad Veritas in San José, Costa Rica. This class taught me so much about myself through learning about how I can implement healthy habits into my lifestyle. I wasn't sure exactly what to expect in taking this class, but it was such a relevant and helpful course to take while being in a new country and trying to figure out how to adjust to everything. My biggest takeaway was realizing that I have the agency to do little things that can make positive changes in my life. I really enjoyed getting to work with my classmates on presentations and have group discussions about our personal takeaways. I have become a more self-aware and compassionate person through the lessons I learned during this class.

Pros
  • the field trip we planned to visit the Bröran indigenous community
  • a positive, safe environment to share our thoughts and listen to others
  • working with classmates
Cons
  • some of the discussions felt rushed
  • writing the healthy lifestyle plan sometimes felt repetitive and tedious
