A great experience working abroad

I had a lovely time working with MyEnglishSister over my 10 months in Lyon. Katy and Charlotte are the perfect balance of professional and kind and have been nothing but supportive through my time with the company.

Resources are provided, Katy gives advice on how to best teach the children, and as I am TEFL qualified there was the option to teach adults online too! It has been an extremely rewarding process.

I know that the Turing scheme now helps recent grads to get abroad, and so would recommend taking advantage of this!

Pros
  • Supportive team
  • Immersive experience
Cons
  • Limited to after-school hours

Really cool experience living in Lyon and working with French children

I wasn't sure what I wanted to do after graduating from Queen's University (Belfast) but knew I wanted to move to France and improve my French! Working with MES was amazing because the team is so kind and helpful. They found me the exact number of hours that I wanted to work (15 per week) and matched me up with such nice families, and if I ever needed help or had a question there was always someone available. My salary was around €700 per month and I only worked afternoons (4:45 to 6:45pm) and all day Wednesday. I got a second job in a cafe some mornings which meant I was really comfortable financially. Also there were no sessions during the kids school holidays which meant I had lots of time to travel and visit other places in France. I spent 6 months but wish I could have stayed longer! Thank you again MES!

Pros
  • The work was fun
  • The company is really nice and helpful
  • The paid was good and you get training
Cons
  • Lyon is quite expensive so you either need savings or a second part-time job
