Destination helped me a lot, because I did a course online, when I got to the Centre I was overwhelmed with the information, and they gave me a second chance. I really appreciate their help and I would really recommend the school to my friends. The trainer was very helpful as well. The colleagues were very helpful too.....................................................................................................................................................................................

January 2024 Siem Reap Course

This is an intensive course but it's rewarding. The first two weeks are classroom instruction which covers things like teaching techniques, classroom management, the PPP method, and how to use classroom materials. There was a lot more pressure in the final two weeks when we started the teaching practicums in a local school. However, I felt like I was learning more about how to be a teacher during this period. I especially learned a lot how to write a lesson plan. The feedback I got during the teaching practicum was also helpful.

Pros
  • The instructor is experienced
  • Great location
  • Lots of support with finding a position
Cons
  • Lack of a coursebook to refer to
  • There wasn't a field trip to Angkor Wat
  • Twelve people had to share one printer, and we couldn't print in color.

Wow I can’t believe it has been a month already, I have not felt something like this before. First of all I love this course it was so packed with so much information and knowledge, our teacher takes her time to make sure that the whole class grasps the knowledge that the teacher presents to the class. Secondly I love my classmates and teacher. All of us come from different walks of life and it is interesting to hear every students story.
Thirdly I love Cambodia, the people are so kind, beautiful and so respectful, I loved teaching the kids at the school for my practicals, I must say i am pleasantly surprised

I had a nice experience

I enjoyed my time in Cambodia. I was nervous at first when it came to taking the course because I didn't know what to expect, but whenever I had questions about things Willie was always so responsive when it came to answering my questions about the course or just about living in Cambodia in general. Cambodia was an amazing experience that I don't ever take for granted. Choosing this program helped me be ready to become an English teacher and now I know I have built the confidence to become an English teacher. Thank you Willie.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
Being able to see a floating village I have never seen something like this in my life.
Pros
  • Everyone was so kind.
  • I enjoyed meeting new people.
Cons
  • When it comes to getting the feedback.

I enjoyed the course. I love the opportunity we had to go to the village and work with the dream school it is an experience that will forever stick with me and I can’t be more grateful. I liked the style my tutor used to teach me because it really gave me an insight to what it is like to learn from the students perspective. My tutor was Emily who honestly I couldn’t have asked for a better tutor she gave me all the necessary support and always made me feel comfortable to talk to her. Emily helped comfort me especially with being so far from home.

What was your funniest moment?
Our class had an inside joke with the board rubber because someone said that it was satisfying so we would always make such a big deal about it and yes it started to get out of hand!
Pros
  • Made friends
  • Learnt a lot
  • Learnt a lot about the culture
Cons
  • Was a bit stressful

Very good headstart

Was such a good rewarding experience with a brilliant bunch of people and amazing trainers. The whole experience was good from start to finish. I would highly recommend this for anyone who is wanting to get a headstart. You get to teach in the most beautiful school, with the most beautiful students. You get humbled very quickly and realise that you are not here for you but you are here for them. The program itself was very organised and structured. I would recommend this to anyone who is thinking about taking the leap. In the past 4 weeks I have learnt so much it's unbelievable.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Teaching for the first time in a school, just kept telling myself I'm just here to help.

Great experience

Destination Tefl has been an amazing experience. Emily and Chy have been so friendly and welcoming and the course work was extremely interesting. It is a very intense course, with the work load maybe being overwhelming for some. Over the course of 4 weeks, I feel as though I have learnt skills that I will use in everyday life, and have developed personally as well as a new teacher. The teaching practicals were especially an amazing experience, and really submerged us into an authentic work environment. Thank you to the team, I’ve made memories I will never forget!
