This was my first trip with tft and my first trip abroad! And I have nothing but positive things to say about tft. The way they organize the trip is incredible, I did not have to worry about anything. The counselors and other teens were so nice, supportive, and made the trip that much better. My parents loved the daily email updates and pictures, they said it felt like they were there with me. Peru was an amazing country to visit, and the community service part of the trip was an eye opener. I enjoyed every single day and miss the country so much especially the small town of Misminay (where we did the community service work) This is one trip I will never forget. I now have a new love for travel thanks to tft.

This past summer, I went on the Sicily Community Service trip. This was my second Travel for Teens trip, and each one gets better! The home we stayed at was absolutely amazing. Right when we arrived, they welcomed us with open arms and big smiles. The location is absolutely incredible, and I immediately felt at home with the breathtaking scenery and sweet children running around. It was familiar enough to feel comfortable, but different enough to really open my eyes. It was the perfect balance of rewarding service and exploring throughout the island. The family made us feel like another member of their own. We helped set the table, make dinner, and even celebrated a birthday. Overall, it was an absolutely incredible experience, one that is very close to my heart. I will always remember the friendships I made with so many of the children, and the memories that I made with so many. Thank you TFT for such an amazing experience. I will always remember it!

Why did you choose this program?

I had never been to South America before, so I immediately knew that this region was next on my list to explore. I chose Peru because the country was so incredibly beautiful that I had to see it for myself. I have always been someone who loves the mountains and loves being connected with nature, and this place was the perfect fit for me.

What did your program provider assist you with, and what did you have to organize on your own?

With TFT, I didn't have to organize anything on my own, which I am very appreciative of. They took care of the itinerary, the lodging, the food, the transportation, and, most importantly, they took care of the flight information. What's really nice about TFT is they offer group flights, so if you are an inexperienced traveler or don't like traveling alone, this is very beneficial.

What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone going on your program?

If you are planning on doing the Peru Service and Adventure trip, my only recommendation is to bring a variety of clothes. Because it is winter in Peru, and with the elevation, it can get cold in some parts of the country. But in other regions, like the Amazon Rain Forest, it is hot and humid. So be sure to bring a good mix of clothes for all climates.

What does an average day/week look like as a participant of this program?

With TFT, there is never a dull moment. Usually, the days start in the morning, with breakfast around 8 or 9. After that the day is packed with activities until dinner. The average week is also jam-packed. Because TFT wants its participants to see as much as they can in the time they have, we're constantly moving from place to place and visiting different cities (or countries!).

Going into your experience abroad, what was your biggest fear, and how did you overcome it? How did your views on the issue change?

Being that I had traveled a lot prior to this trip, there wasn't much that I was worried or fearful about. If any, and this may be TMI so bare with me, the big one for me was that I tend to have a sensitive stomach, and when I travel, I have a hard time finding foods that don't upset my stomach. But in Peru, the quality of their food was phenomenal! I had no issues with their food and they were able to make accommodations for my dietary restrictions.

What was your favorite memory from the trip?

Being fortunate enough to spend three weeks in Peru and taking a tour of the entire country, I have thousands of photos and memories that I will cherish forever. But if I had to pick a favorite, I loved the few days of the trip that we spent in Aguas Calientes and saw Macchu Picchu! Seeing one of the seven wonders of the wonder and being surrounded by mountains and llamas was the most surreal experience and I will never forget it.
