Great experience

Beijing and China had always attracted me and every weekend I had the chance to explore the city, both during the day and during the night (one of the safest city I've ever seen).

Accommodation service was prefect from the first day to the very last one. The European furniture was definitely a plus even though the apartment's bathroom were very small.

Internship Network Asia staff was always very kind to me.

The metro card given by the school was really helpful in order to reach my office the first days.

Critical Feedback:

I would have made a small manual of common things you need during the day with related pictures and chinese and english explanation. This would have helped me a lot in my experience especially in the first days in China

Good experience

Beijing is beautiful, every weekend a different thing to do.

Great maintenance service at the accommodation. Very convenient accommodation area but apartment's bathroom very small.

Friendly staff and easy-reachable school.
Cheaper than Shanghai.

Riding my bicycle to go to the office was amazing through the morning traffic both in summer and winter!
I met amazing people and made life-long friends.

Critical Feedback:

Reviewing some internship programs: according to my personal experience and to what other students told me, the working tasks weren't exactely what they were suppose to be.

Great experience: nice people and a lot of fun

Hi,

I am already a year back in my home country and there is no day, at which I didn't miss Beijing. The people I met there, the atmosphere. Don't know if there is any place similar.

As it is common in Asia, even though we had a kitchen, we hardly ever used it. Most of the time we (me and my friends) went out for dinner and lunch.

I liked Beijing that much, because two cultures clashes together. In one minute you are surrounded by the most modern skyscrapers and than you turn around and you are in a very traditional Hutong Area.

Like the homepage of Internship Network Asia already tells you, the people in this program become family. Still I hold contact of some of them.

Sometimes it occurs that you are not happy in the beginning, but the Internship Network Asia Crew tries the best, to help you out. Don't bother to call or text them. Although they are busy most of the time, they will take their time to help you.

Critical Feedback:

Well my internship placement was not really like I hoped it would be. I didn't learn that much and was kind of bored. However my colleagues were pretty nice and I understand, that there was not so much to do for me. Everything else was perfect.

One of the best experiences of my life

I really enjoyed the whole experience and I totally recommend it. During my internship I had the opportunity to meet people from different parts of the world and to learn about other cultures. The work assigned at the internship was up to my expectations and corresponded to the description of the website.

I shared my apartment with really nice people and I meet other persons at Internship Network Asia activities. There is a huge range of them: from learn how to do spring rolls, see the Beijing Opera, do paper cutting and even practice Tai Chi.

The people from Internship Network Asia were always there when I needed them. I had some visa issues, but I received help from them to solve it. And when something at the apartment wasn't working, the next days was someone fixing it.

Critical Feedback:

When you are doing the internship program its more difficult to meet new people (compared to people who are taking the chinese classes) so it would be nice to do more social activities for this program.

Overall great program for China newbies

First of all, I want to say that I had an amazing time in China and Internship Network Asia was a great help for me as a China newbie. Therefore I can recommend the program for everyone who will visit/live in China for the first time.

Organization:

The contact with Internship Network Asia was quick and friendly. All my questions before coming to China were answered so I wasn't worried getting on a plane to China. Airport pickup worked well and I was brought to my apartment directly before getting the police registration done and have a short introduction at the school. The school is located at a convenient location in Beijing (Sanlitun) I think the prices of Internship Network Asia are a bit high. But they take all the hassle of organizing a stay in China off your hands so it was worth it for me. They are a professional and trustworthy organization so you don't have to worry to pay the deposit for the program upfront. I read a bad review which I found via Google beforehand and was a little bit worried. However, don't believe the review that says that Internship Network Asia is a scam because it isn't. All Internship Network Asia students I have met and talked to would recommend the program.

Language Classes
The Mandarin classes were always great fun. The group size was always really small, usually between 2 and 4 students. I had classes with two different teachers during my stay. The first one was really nice and also taught us a lot of small talk which was useful for every day life and small talk but wasn't in the textbook. The second teacher was very nice too but didn't have the same English proficiency like the first one which made it harder to ask questions and clear things up when needed. What I didn't like was the textbook they used for beginners. I think the structure doesn't make sense and slowed down my learning progress. I have seen better textbooks for beginners which I used afterwards to review my Mandarin skills when I got back home after my stay in China. Also, if you take part in the internship program or you have a job in China the time for studying Chinese is very limited. I had classes late at night which was tiring because you are exhausted from your day in the office and the hot weather in Beijing. The students should be aware that the learning progress is limited if you only take evening classes. Friends of mine who took the intensive program at Internship Network Asia had an incredibly fast progress in their Mandarin skills, simply because they had all day to study and practice. So really think about your priorities before choosing one of the programs.

Internships
Like with every internship it can either be a valuable experience or you are used as a cheap helper for the tasks nobody else wants to do. It is the same with the internships Internship Network Asia finds for you. I had a great internship with interesting and challenging tasks and supporting managers who really made sure that I learn something during my internship. However, I also heard from many other Internship Network Asia students that they had boring jobs and sat around all day. I think Internship Network Asia only has a limited influence on which tasks are assigned to interns within the individual companies. So it is also up to you to ask in the first Skype interview with the company what your tasks will be and how they see the role of interns in general. I think the value of the internship also always depends on the length of the stay. However, Internship Network Asia always offers to find another company for you if you are not happy. Or you can still decide to do the intensive Chinese program. All in all, the internship staff of Internship Network Asia is always very encouraged to find the best fit for you and make you happy.

Accommodation (Beijing)
It is simple but works well. All apartments are located central so you can get around quickly. You definitely pay more with the program than finding an apartment yourself. But you also don't have to deal with landlords, internet companies, repair service, etc. If you have a problem you call Internship Network Asia and they fix it for you. It is all very simple and hassle free!

Social Experience
Probably one of the best things about Internship Network Asia. From the first day you are not alone in China. You meet people from around the world so quickly: your flat mates, your class mates, other Internship Network Asia students from hanging and going out together...
Internship Network Asia also organizes many cultural activities and trips to other places in China. It is a great opportunity to meet other students of the school and make new friends while learning something about China.

Overall conclusion
I can recommend Internship Network Asia to everyone who goes to China for the first time. They eliminate all the hassle (and therefore fear) of going and living in China. The only downside is the price of the program. It is really expensive! They do a good job and they want to earn money too. But with some China experience and language skills you can also organize a lot of things yourself. For me it was always a dream to go to China, therefore it was worth the price. But if you have been to China before and have some experience you can also risk the adventure of organizing it yourself and saving a lot of money. For "China beginners" it is a great program to get a first impression of an amazing country without having to worry about anything!

Critical Feedback:

The flexibilty of the program, e.g. the language classes are part of the internship program. Sometimes I wished I could take a break from language classes for a month, review what I have learned so far and rather save the money for that time. But since it is just one big package deal it isn't possible. Instead I would have prefered small building blocks so I can build my own individual program.

Easy going!

If you don't have a lot of time or energy to find your own apartment and your own internship place than Internship Network Asia is the way to go.

You pay the price for a good apartment, service, classes and of course FUN! Thanks to Internship Network Asia there was always something to do and new people to meet!

I partially have to thank them for experiencing Shanghai in a really comfortable and safe way!

Especially I thank some of the employees for their constant attention and friendliness!

Internship in Shanghai

My 3 months stay in Shanghai was a fantastic experience! A big part of that is due to Internship Network Asia, from the moment I arrived until the moment I left , I could always count on them.

Internship Network Asia found a great internship for me, I learned a lot during the 3 months I worked in Shanghai. I combined my internship with Chinese classes. The lessons were a lot of fun and the teachers were really nice.

Through the cultural activities I learned more about the Chinese culture in a fun way and at the same time I also got to know the other students.

Shanghai is a fantastic city to live in and the apartments of the Internship Network Asia are amazing!!

I am definitely coming back !

Matched my needs perfectly

Internship Network Asia represents a great opportunity to travel and discover China in a safe way. They offer you a lot of different services to make you feel comfortable in your daily life.

The internship was really interesting and the local company team welcomed me without any problem. Internship Network Asia team is also reliable, do not hesitate to ask them any question you have. They were able to help me regarding my tourism trip organization in China.

They propose high-quality lessons with different levels to facilitate your introduction and learning experience.

Awesome Internship!

My internship at Internship Network Asia was, in a word: "excellent". They have a pretty good hassle-free program. You could say I got the most complete treatment, since I also got the opportunity to work with them as my internship. The working environment was really pleasant, which made me enjoy my time even more. Regarding the difficulties, I would say this will depend more on you and your "open-mindedness", Internship Network Asia will help you out with the difficult stuff (housing and getting around) but its up to you to keep up with the little stuff (ordering meals and communicating). But if you are going overseas, you should be willing to confront these difficulties, so it's really not a big deal.
By the way, LEARN SOME CHINESE WHILE IN CHINA. Seriously, it will help you a lot and it's always nice to learn something new (and as always, Internship Network Asia can help with that and they do it quite good! ;) ). HAVE A SAFE TRIP AND DON'T FORGET TO HAVE TONS OF FUN!

Educational excellence & prime locations!

I ended up doing an internship in Beijing totally randomly. I didn't know a thing about China, or the working conditions there, or even how to say Hi in Chinese. Well, Internship Network Asia destroyed all my fears, crashed the doubts you can have when moving in another country, and welcomed me as part of a big family.

I LOVED the apartment provided, the proximity of everything. The teachers are amazing and friendly, and the school staff is always there to help you. I am 100% satisfied with Internship Network Asia. I would recommend Internship Network Asia without hesitation.

Great Experience with Beijing's Internship Network Asia!

Overall, my experience with Internship Network Asia was amazing. The apartment was more than adequate right in central Beijing, the teachers were all super enthusiastic, flexible, and supportive. The staff were willing to go the extra mile to help students with any issues they may have. I know people had very different experiences with their internships, some were very happy whereas others did not feel challenged. My personal experience was a great one, working for an environmental and community awareness NGO. I gained experience I would not have had otherwise and got a good idea of what it is like working in Beijing. I have recommended this program to many people interested in working in China, and will continue to do so. Thank you Internship Network Asia!

Great memories ahead !

I am completely positive about my internship program with Internship Network Asia.
They are available if you need any support. The teachers are really good and they know how to convey their passion for the Chinese language in an amazing atmosphere.
Meeting people from all around the around is always rewarding as it allows you to see things differently, share everyone experiences and discover other cultures. To cut a long story short, it enables you to progress !
It might be a challenge, but it's absolutely worth it, that's for sure! It would be a pleasure to go back to Beijing (or Shanghai now) next summer =).

A lifetime experience

I finished my internship 2 months ago. The idea of leaving your home and country it's always a bit scary and a big challenge, specially when you decide to move to a country as different as China. Anyway from the first time I put my feet at Beijing International Airport I got the support of the school. Now looking back in time it has been a great decision. I have grown up professionaly but personally too and I've met a lot of friends which I hope I will meet again soon somewhere in the world.

Great stepping stone

Although the program was a little pricey, Internship Network Asia truly can hold your hand during the entire process of moving over to China. It's a hard place to live and you absolutely need someone to help!

The 6-month internship they found for me was not useful in and of itself. However, because of that internship, I made some connections at the company that landed me a much better job later on.

The Chinese teachers they had at the time I was there (2006) were excellent. And they had plenty of opportunities for socializing which is very nice when you're new.

Why you should go with Internship Network Asia

Enrolling at Internship Network Asia looking for a Chinese learning course is not just about that, but about getting a profound Chinese culture and language experience while living in a multicultural environment. Every day you'll learn a little bit more about China and Chinese people in the language courses and you'll think it's amazing or will disagree, but then when you get to take the bus, or subway, or -even better- ride your bicycle to get to the internship or just sightseeing, you'll find out that everything you learn at class is so useful that you start looking at everything and learning while doing. Then your get to your job (internship) and start building a unique relationship with your Chinese colleagues: you work with them, eat with them, talk with them and then you'll start getting to know them better and learn a lot with them.
You'll also have the opportunity to attend very interesting cultural activities that the school organize such as Chinese painting or calligraphy and get to understand a little bit more about the way your host country deals with aesthetics, while in the meantime you met new friends.
And you'll also have the opportunity to share your joy with others, specially with less privilege children, through volunteering.
So as every day goes by you find out you're having a great experience!

great experiences, great friendships.

Going to Beijing and joining Internship Network Asia was the best decision I've made. I don't regret it at all, and enjoyed everyday of my 6 months there.
At first I was definitely hesitant, since I've never traveled outside Canada. It was my first trip abroad and by myself too. Internship Network Asia made me feel right at home. From the second I stepped into Beijing, there was a staff member waiting to take me from the airport, right to the pre-arranged accommodations. They didn't just drop me off, but made sure I was comfortable and took me on a mini tour around the neighborhood of my apartment. The staff have been helpful from day one and were always quick to respond when in need.

The Chinese classes were small, which made it easier to learn. It is amazing how much Chinese you can learn within the first couple months. Teachers were always very encouraging and taught at a pace that was right for you.
I also did an internship program while at Internship Network Asia. The 6 months has really helped me gain a lot of experience and helped me with my career. I had a true advantage and I have this experience and Internship Network Asia to thank.

One of the best things about Internship Network Asia was that all the students were friendly and you never felt lonely. I had the opportunity to make really good friendships, and even though I've left Beijing for 1 year now, I still keep in touch with many of them. I was especially lucky to have met one friend who is from the same country and now we are now great friends.

I have gained a lot from Internship Network Asia, and would highly recommend the program to anyone looking for a chance to explore, understand and live within China's rich culture.

Best summer of my life

Every morning I woke up in my beautiful apartment and took the subway to school with my awesome roommates from around the world. I studied Chinese with a fantastic teacher every morning, then headed to the other end of Beijing for an internship directly related to what I want to do as a career. In 10 weeks, my Chinese went from nothing to awesome. I still cannot wait to get back to Beijing, and Internship Network Asia will be my first stop!

Alumni Interviews

  • Laura trekking up the Great Wall of China with some friends

Meet Laura Lee Moreau, Internship Network Asia Internship alum

GO: What originally inspired you to intern in Beijing with the Internship Network Asia?

Laura: I graduated in 2009 with a Graphic Design Degree in Canada. I just received my diploma and was already doing an internship in one of the biggest advertising and design agencies in Canada. There, I learned from the best, and ended up working for them after my internship ended.

A few months after, I was leaving Canada for an internship in Beijing, with the help of Internship Network Asia. For me, to move abroad, explore and learn from experiences is the best way to grow as a person and potentially as a designer. I decided to go to China without knowing anything about this country, because I knew this was good for me. I knew this would be a positive experience.

GO: Describe your day to day activities as an intern in Beijing.

Laura: With Internship Network Asia, you can either intensively learn Chinese, or do an internship plus study 2 hours a day. As an intern, 5 days a week, I woke up early (as most of the locals!), I mounted my bike and would go to school for a 2-hour class. Then, at 10 am, I went next door and worked in a foreign Web Design company for the day. At night, I usually studied for an hour or so, then I would go to dinner with other students. As most of my friends (and other Internship Network Asia students) were all living in the same area, it was easy for us to see each other.

Laura at a Canadian restaurant in Beijing
Canadian restaurant in Beijing

During weekends, we would go to cultural activities organized by Internship Network Asia, or go shopping in the numerous markets!

GO: How has this experience impacted your future?

Laura: I worked as an intern for a foreign company based in China, doing Web Design. Even just this was a big achievement for me. Imagine! Moving to the other side of the world, all by myself and without knowing anybody... Wow! Furthermore, this company hired me before I even finished my internship, and soon after, I became Art Director, supervising the Design department. We all became friends there, and meeting all these great people was just amazing.

On a personal side, this achievement helped me to grow as a person, and to discover myself more. I became more confident, and left China etched with memories for life. Professionally, this wonderful experience is without any doubt a big plus on my CV. Employers are excited to learn more about my year in China, and it definitely helped me get jobs!
