About Program

Salzburg College is a small, private institution specialized in offering quality international education programs in the US-American academic tradition. At Salzburg College classroom work, field study, and academic travel complement one another. All classes are taught in English, mostly by European professors, and you receive regular US credit for your academic work.
Our facilities are located in the KunstQuartier (ArtQuarter) in the heart of Salzburg's old town. The close vicinity to public, educational and cultural institutions allows for easy integration of classroom study and on-site experience.

You can choose between living in an Austrian home or staying in a carefully selected university dormitory. Becoming part of an Austrian family or joining Austrian students allows you to learn to understand Austrian customs and values first hand- one of the most rewarding aspects of studying at Salzburg College.

Trip of a lifetime

Studying at Salzburg College was the best experience I’ve had in college yet. In such a short amount of time, I got to study in beautiful city, try new foods, learn how to use the public transportation, travel to surrounding cities, and meet lifelong friends. The faculty was beyond helpful and supportive through every step, I never once felt like I was alone yet I felt free to experience things for myself. After I got back from my trip, I changed my major to International Relations. I made the decision that I want travel to be a major part of my life and I hope that I will have the opportunity to return back to Salzburg soon.

Great experience!

I throughly enjoyed my time at Salzburg College. I learned so much about the history and culture of Austria and the German language. I loved being able to live with a host family and experience their everyday lives. They were kind, patient people who helped me learn the language better. Thankfully, they did know some English when I didn't know how to say something in German. The only bummer about the program is that all students there are foreigners and mainly Americans. I would have liked to get to know Austrian students my age compared to other American students. However, living with my host family allowed me to get to know Austrians more. I loved all the class trips we took. They were planned out but yet we still had our free time to do what we wanted. We also had a free weekend to travel wherever we wanted. This program has helped me understand more of what living in another country looks like. This was the longest I have ever and probably ever will be out of the country.

What would you improve about this program?
I would have liked to have had the chance to meet Austrians my age. I think that would have been fun to get to know people my age from another country and be able to learn from them.

A great vacation

If you are looking for an academically rich program and to connect with students from Austria, this is not the program for you. This is a program that allows you to travel and have fun with your American counterparts. It is a very small group, and if you do not get along, have fun because there are only a small number of classes and you will all be together.

Response from Salzburg College

I’m sorry you were not able to fully enjoy your semester here in Salzburg. Naturally, as with many things in life, studying abroad is a very personal experience. Salzburg College has been offering study abroad programs for over 40 years and we have welcomed thousands of students. While one student might really thrive in our more personal
setting and enjoy the intimacy, another might not see expectations met. We thank you for your honest feedback and promise that we will continue working on providing all our students with the best possible study abroad experience.

A perfect place to experience Europe.

Salzburg and Austria have such a rich and distinct history. It's in a prime location - literally in the heart of Europe - to explore the land many cultures that have existed there. It's a place of profound beauty and Salzburg College does an excellent job immersing you into the culture and teaching you what you want to learn. The staff are friendly and fun-loving and the people are amazing.

What would you improve about this program?
I would have liked to have a roommate to live with me in my host home.
