Best experience ever

Therapy abroad in Belize not only taught me so many new things about being a speech pathologist but it introduced to to a culture and group of people I grew to love. The people I met in the program are some of the smartest and most kind hearted people I have ever met. Tykes camp or “mini camp”, was an extremely rewarding experience. I formed a bond with both of my clients/ kids and their families. This trip gave me peace of mind that I did pick the right future career. I love that we were also able to have a mini vacation at the end to reward our hard work with the kids. My only negative is that I wish I was able to stay longer!

Pros
  • Learning about a different culture
  • Meeting clients and forming bonds with them

Communication Sciences and Disorders- Belize

I had a fantastic experience in Belize with Therapy Abroad. I gained hands on clinical experience in a culturally diverse setting and learned a multitude of things from my amazing supervisors. I felt extremely safe the entire trip and everyone I encountered was very kind. I developed strong bonds and connections with my peers on the trip that will last a lifetime. The excursions in San Ignacio and Caye Caulker were something I will never forget and were all very unique. Additionally, all the food provided was delicious.

Pros
  • Hands on clinical experience
  • Amazing excursions
  • Extremely safe
Cons
  • Long travel days

Best experience ever

I highly recommend studying abroad with Therapy Abroad in Belize. Our trip had a rocky start due to our flight being cancelled with the poor weather conditions, but Chad (Therapy Abroad owner) and his team worked endlessly to reschedule and extend our trip. The entire Therapy Abroad team is extremely supportive and ensures that you have a great trip. The housing, food, and people were all amazing. Clinical work is beyond rewarding and provides great learning opportunities for the student. There is a perfect mix of clinical, cultural, and excursion experiences. I highly recommend this experience and would go again in a heartbeat.

Pros
  • Diverse & Unique Clinical Opportunities
  • Supportive & Organized Staff
  • Amazing Cultural Experience & Education

Belize 2023

The expectations I had were very low and therapy abroad blew them out of the water! I had so much fun with all the staff, students, supervisors, and any one else involved! Would highly recommend this for students wishing to get hands on experience because you will get a lot of it which isn’t just offered anywhere else. There was never a day where I felt like we were just doing nothing; we were always either working with clients, learning something new, or doing a fun activity. We were given enough opportunity to go out an explore on our own as well as getting to do fun activities with the group.

Pros
  • Housing was amazing
  • Lots of good food to try
  • Everything was easy to get to
Cons
  • Internet was iffy

CSDS in Belize

This trip with Therapy Abroad was like nothing else I have ever experienced before. From the moment I arrived in Belize City, I experienced a great deal of support. All of the staff that were assisting us were absolutely amazing. Our accommodations were better that expected and there was never a time were I felt unsafe. I met so many amazing people who I would now consider to be my best friends even after only knowing them a couple weeks. There is something so special about getting to experience a new culture and so many fun activities with a group of people who have the same interests and passions as myself. It is also so rare to be able to have such an impactful clinical experience such as this, knowing you’re helping a small community access services that they normally don’t have access to. I could not recommend this program enough. I hope to come back in a few years as a program supervisor.

Pros
  • Great staff
  • Fun activities
  • Clinical experience

Belize 2023

This trip was a great experience! Everyone was so helpful and our supervisors were awesome. It was a great opportunity to get hands-on experience with a culturally diverse population! We got to see a diverse population of clients including both children and adults. I learned a lot, met a ton of great people, and had a lot of fun! Not only did we get clinical experience, we also got to go on really cool excursions and explore Belize! It will definitely be helpful in my journey to becoming an SLP. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone considering it!

Great experience!

This was a great experience! The supervisors were very helpful in making sure we were happy, safe, and comfortable. Both in our travels and in our studies. A hands on experience was very helpful and rewarding. I felt as though I was treated like a professional without fully being thrown into the deep end. Someone was always there if I needed it, but they also let us have the freedom needed to learn and experience things for ourselves. The people on the trip were all very friendly and sweet. I made some friends I hope will last a long time.
