Best summer yet!

I was invited onto the programme in the summer of 2018 and taught in a school in Beijing for 5weeks. I loved how much we were immersed into the authentic Chinese experience with the food, games, entertainment and music! I made such good friendships with the other teachers and three years on, we're still in touch! But the best part by far was getting to spend so much time with such bright, passionate, enthusiastic (and often cheeky) kids! I would 1000% recommend this programme, I met amazing people, picked up some mandarin, travelled alone and in groups and took lots of photos with random strangers!!

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would have taken more photos and definitely visited more local restaurants! I didn't have nearly as much hotpot as I should have!

Experience of a lifetime!

I participated in the Abridge EduCamp program in Beijing during the Summer of 2019. I applaud the efforts made to provide intercultural exchange with plentiful accommodations to help us work through cultural differences and language barriers. I taught children ages 6-10 for almost a month, creating lasting memories with them. I realized kids are so much fun to work with! I loved the incredibly supportive team working behind the scenes and I hope to be participating again in the near future!

In terms of social life, we had plenty of opportunities to bond with the other teachers we worked with. We ended up going on spontaneous outings into downtown Beijing, traveled throughout China together and we still keep in touch.

I fully recommend applying to participate in Abridge EduCamp, which will ensure you are rightfully looked after and have the best of times during your stay in China.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Take the necessary materials needed to carry out your lessons but also be ready to adjust quickly and improvise when things don't go according to plan.

Great way to spend summer

I taught English at a summer camp in Beijing and I would really recommend this to anyone! Everything ran smoothly at the school with lessons and I was also able to make good friends with other English speaking teachers from around the world. Was a great way to experience Chinese Culture and have an essentially free trip away to Asia! We also had some time in which the school had organised for some teachers to stay with a pupil's family for a few day which was a great way to experience chinese family life.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would leave myself extra time at the end of the camp to explore more parts of China. The school showed us around Beijing, but there was so much more to see in the rest of tge country which I didn't have time to see any of.

Homestay & Cultural Exchange Teaching Experience, 2019

My teaching experience at the school in Beijing that I was placed at was very positive overall. It was an incredible opportunity to make new friends through travelling and taking part in the fun cultural activities with the other teachers. It also gave me the opportunity to spend plenty of time with local people and see so much of the everyday culture and what China is really like, which I feel I would have missed out on if I came by myself purely for a holiday. The homestay programme was particularly good for this. There was plenty of time for sightseeing and exploring during the teaching programme which the participants really appreciated.

What would you improve about this program?
Slightly more information could have been given in advance about what to expect, but this aspect of the programme has since been improved following feedback from the 2019 group.

Beijing Summer Camp

I had so much fun at this summer camp. I was always laughing with other foreign teachers and having fun dancing with the kids. It was seriously an amazing six weeks.

Through this programme, I have travelled with a group of foreign teachers and hiked the Great Wall for the sunrise and taken many trips into the city to eat delicious street food.

It is so easy to make friends on this programme, everyone that went to the Beijing camp was lovely and there was always someone who wanted to travel or make plans. There was always something to do whether it was taking the bullet train to Tianjin or going to get bubble tea at 10 pm at the mall.

There were a couple of surprising moments, such as taking a Tuk Tuk for the first time and the driver not allowing me to close either of the back doors.

What was your funniest moment?
There were too many to count! Possibly when we were dancing a silly cat dance with the students at the carnival night.
