Telf course

I recently completed a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) course and overall, I was impressed with the content and structure of the program. The course provided a comprehensive foundation in teaching methodologies, lesson planning, and classroom management. The modules were well-organized and designed to build progressively on one another, making it easy to follow even for beginners. The materials provided in the course, including the handouts, video tutorials, and reading materials, were informative and useful for someone new to teaching English as a second language.

One of the strongest aspects of the course was its thorough coverage of grammar and language skills, which can be a daunting area for new teachers. I appreciated the way the course broke down complex grammar rules and presented them in a way that was digestible and easy to understand. The lesson planning modules were also particularly useful, as they provided step-by-step guidance on creating effective lessons, which is essential for teaching English to non-native speakers. Having this solid framework gave me the confidence to design lessons tailored to different age groups and language levels.

However, while I found the content valuable and the platform user-friendly, I felt that there could have been more interactive elements to keep learners engaged. While the course offered quizzes and assignments that were helpful in reinforcing key concepts, it lacked more dynamic features like podcasts or interactive video sessions. Personally, I learn better when there are varied formats, and I believe podcasts or even live webinars would have added a more immersive element to the experience. Listening to seasoned teachers share their experiences or case studies through audio would have been a great way to contextualize the theory into practical application.

Additionally, incorporating more interactive components like group discussions, role-playing activities, or peer feedback would have made the learning process even more engaging. Teaching is an inherently interactive profession, so a course that reflects this through more active learning opportunities would better prepare future teachers for real classroom environments. While the assignments were valuable, they were often done in isolation, and I believe adding more opportunities for collaboration would simulate the experience of working in a diverse, communicative classroom setting.

Another point worth noting is that the course included video content, but it felt a bit static at times. Shorter, more dynamic videos, combined with interactive Q&A sessions or reflective exercises, could really elevate the learning experience. It would also have been helpful to include podcasts as a way to engage auditory learners and provide an alternative way to absorb the material while multitasking or on the go.

Despite these areas for improvement, I would highly recommend the course for anyone looking to get certified to teach English abroad or online. It offers a solid foundation in all the essential aspects of teaching English, from grammar and vocabulary to lesson planning and classroom management. With a few more interactive elements and multimedia resources, I believe this TEFL course could stand out even more and provide an even more engaging experience for students. Overall, it was a rewarding course that prepared me well for my journey into teaching English as a foreign language.

A great introduction

Having some experience but coming back to teaching after a break this was a perfect option. The chapters are well connected and make sense. It may get weary at times with a lot of text, but it's well worth it. It also neatly reiterates the most important ideas and give you repetition in good places. There are also some videos that liven up the course and give you advice from a seasoned teacher, some are real gems. All in all, I really appreciate choosing this course and I feel armed with a lot of tools and insights that I will definitely use in my class in Thailand. Thanks a lot!

What would you improve about this program?
The wall of text is sometimes discouraging.

TEFL Review

This was a very insightful class, it was structured well in walking through everything in a step by step process to help get review and oversight into the foundation of teaching English as a second language. It is nice to have the review exams at the end of lessons to really help key in on and focus on the vitally important aspects of teaching. It is quite dense with information and is something that you would be best to break down into multiple days just to really help everything set in. All together it was a great course that I recommend.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
You just have to go for it, life is short and we only get so many opportunities to immerse ourselves into foreign communities by having the chance to teach and explore.
Pros
  • Great way to touch up on English
Cons
  • Very dense content in somme chapters

TEFL Ceryn

I loved the course and found it easy to use. Very important information was given to me which has set me up perfectly to start teaching Thai as a second language when I start at the end of October. It was a very interactive course and I felt thoroughly engaged throughout. The information was engaging, and I felt very confident when completing the end-of-module tests at the end of the modules because of how the information was so well presented. It has taught me how to make engaging and interesting lessons for future students.

Useful Programme

The TEFL Nomad course covered a wide range of topics giving me the confidence to move abroad to peruse my dream of teaching English. It developed my understanding of grammar and teaching practices. It also contains podcast style videos that make the course seem more personal. These also give you advise and tips from someone who is experienced in teaching English as a foreign language. Thanks to this course I am now ready to make my fist teaching adventure and hopefully can begin a rewarding life long career.

Excellent course for aspiring TEFL teachers

I thoroughly enjoyed my course. It was easy to navigate, and the end-of-module tests were particularly motivating and kept me on track with my concentration and engagement. The course was easy to follow/access, which meant I completed it quite quickly (considering it is advertised as a 120-hour course!). I found the intervals of podcast episodes from James to also be a really useful thing since it broke up the learning and made a nice change of reading from a screen. The structure of the course was also very linear and logical, so the information being taught to you doesn't go straight over your head!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
I opened a Word document alongside the tab I had opened for the TEFL course and took notes like I would in a lecture. This was super helpful as I ended up jotting down many useful tips for my teaching days, and now I'm left with an organised Word document filled with many tips and reminders for when I'm teaching!
Pros
  • Accessible
  • Straight-forward
  • Engaging

TEFL Nomad Review

This course covers a lot of really important content and short modules, which have been super helpful for me as a jumping-off-point. Because the course covers a lot you might feel like you want more detail on specific areas. For example, I am teaching young primary schoolers, so the lessons on adult, or online classes were not completely applicable, but they were interesting. Nonetheless, the lessons on young learners and classroom management caught my attention, and I made sure to keep notes and research further. This was my philosophy for this course. Graze everything and focus on content that I know will apply to me. The course also is available for a couple of months after you complete the certificate, so you can always reference back to the course material

I also appreciated this course because I was working a full -time job while completing the certification and the website was really easy to find where you last left off (if you're logging on and off regularly).
