Life Changing

This program changed my life! A great experience for students who have never been abroad before as it is only 4 weeks and comes with a perfect amount of structure. Some weekends were planned with activities such as a horse show or a trip, while others we were given leeway to plan our own trips. The instructors are kind, knowledgeable, and always open to answering questions. Riding at the Scottish National Equestrian Center was amazing and so much fun. Highly, highly recommend this program to my fellow adventurers and students wanting to get their feet wet studying abroad!

Pros
  • Incredible instructors
  • Ability to travel to other countries on the weekends
  • Lots to do in the city
Cons
  • Housing could be better (doors are loud, walls are very thin, etc.)
  • Difficult to travel within Scotland
  • Long classes

Scotland Equine Study Abroad 2023

I came into this program knowing no other people that would be here, no idea what to expect, and no idea what to even pack or bring. It was super easy to meet the others and many of us all became instant friends. The other students in the school and staff were equally as friendly and welcoming as well. It is safe to say that there was no need to worry at all. The classes were very informative and easy to learn in the short period of time especially due to great instruction. Same goes for the riding, the instructors were incredibly kind and accommodating with all riders across all levels. As someone who has a decent amount of horse experience already, I will say the riding was very basic and more fun than challenging. But the instructors were able to still cater to what I needed and I thoroughly enjoyed it all.

Fantastic Study Abroad

This program is great for students who do not want to do an entire semester abroad. The staff is great and very accommodating. The classes are very fast paced so you will need to study for the exam, but they make sure not to overload you so that you can still enjoy your time in Scotland. They plan a lot of trips for us but also give you some long weekends so that you can do some things on your own. The riding is really fun and they are willing to work with you and accommodate all levels of riders.

Pros
  • Long weekends to travel
  • Friendly environment
Cons
  • Dining hall very limited
  • Limited public transport, takes a while to get to Edinburgh

Scotland Equine Abroad Summer 2023

I had an amazing time at the SRUC Oatridge campus and the Scottish National Equestrian Centre. The facilities out at the yard are top tier and there is a range of talented horses that we were able to take informative jump lessons on and hack around the beautiful property. Having such a nice yard supplemented my learning, as I was able to practice labeling different body parts and systems frequently. The students at the school were also amazing to spend time with and learn from, we definitely would have been lost without them!

Pros
  • Equine facility
  • Amazing staff
  • Great location
Cons
  • No air conditioning
  • Food accommodation not amazing

Scotland Equine Program

This program was fantastic. I had never ridden a horse before, and I was able to work my way all the way up to a canter by the end of the trip. The staff was very friendly and helpful with anything that I needed. The classes were in depth and very useful. Each class was over a different topic, and the classes helped me learn a lot about anatomy and fitness. The school was a bit far from Edinburgh, but the bus could get you there in about 45 minutes. I would bring a fan because there is no air conditioning.

Pros
  • Friendly to everyone
  • Accessible to new riders
  • Easy access to Edinburgh
Cons
  • Very hot
  • mediocre food

Scotland equine study abroad 2023

I had a wonderful time study abroad here. The staff is a great group of people who are here to make sure you are happy and having a good time. The academics were quite straight forward and there is plenty of time to explore the country. Meeting all the horses is super fun and I've grown to really love all of them (especially Dandy<3). The riding lesson instructors were fabulous. They really make sure you are happy with the horse you are on and want to provide you with whatever skill you are asking for. They do try their best to keep the whole group satisfied.

Pros
  • experience class in a different country
  • exploring the near by cities and the rest of the country
  • meeting many new people
Cons
  • Class is early everyday so if you aren't a morning person it does take awhile to get use to
  • The food does get a bit old after a while
  • The weather is a bit unpredictable

Scotland Equine Study Abroad 2023

I loved the environment of the campus and support from the staff. Everyone here was very nice and extremely helpful. Being able to easily catch a bus to Edinburgh allows you to be able to explore the city often and see the major tourist sights of Scotland. The riding program was lots of fun and the instructors taught the lessons based on what you wanted to do. It provided a lot of variety and the horses were lovely as well. Overall I had a great experience and I wish I was able to spend more time here.

Pros
  • Being able to easily catch a bus into Edinburgh
  • Beautiful campus with decent housing
  • Lots of friendly people
Cons
  • Bus times don't run very often so good planning is necessary if wanting to explore
  • Small campus, not much to do at the campus itself
  • Course was surface level information, did not learn much new material but still interesting

Amazing Experience in Scotland

While in Eccelesmacan the group of us had so much fun riding, going out to the local pub, and taking trips to places like Edinburgh, London, and the Highlands. The school work seemed like it was going to be very easy compared to my home universities version of equine anatomy and in class that is the impression we got, but when taking the exam it was humbling to say the least so don't forget to study for the final because you will definitely need to. I loved the peopled that I was with on the trip but like any group of 15 girls and 1 boy, there was drama.

Pros
  • Ability to travel outside of Broxburn
  • the pub
  • the riding lessons
Cons
  • Drama between almost everyone
  • far away from Edinburgh
