The Fewer Things - Teach in China

I could not recommend this programme more, I was hesitant to apply because I am not a native-english speaker but because my degree was from a U.K. university, Jaemi was able to accept me and placed me in a school Beijing. The support I received on the build up and once in China has been amazing and I have felt like everything has just fell in to place.

I teach around 15 hours per week with no office hours and my accommodation is provided not far from school, it is a shared house with 2 other teachers from the US and Canada.

I have just started my winter break and am about to leave for Thailand!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Don't let your nerves get the better of you because everything works out just fine in the end.

Teaching in Shanghai, China

I am very happy to have chosen The Fewer Things to help me embark on my adventure in China. Jaemi has been beyond helpful throughout the entire process - from answering all my questions as I contemplated teaching abroad, to going out of his way to help with last minute visa issues. Living in Shanghai has been a very rewarding experience thanks to the arrangements and guidance that Jaemi sensibly prepared before and during my time in China. I couldn't be happier to have come to Shanghai and recommend this experience to anyone considering teaching abroad. Whilst every adventure has its rewards and challenges, Jaemi is always just a message away to help you remedy any problem and to make sure you find your balance.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Be open-minded and don't hesitate to ask for help! Acquiring some basic Chinese phrases and vocabulary will also help tremendously whilst getting accustomed to daily life in China.

Grateful for the experience!

I am so grateful to the Fewer things for helping me reach my dream of coming to work and live in China. Jamie is incredibly helpful from day one, even after the program he keeps checking on us in case we need anything. Thanks to this program I was able to get a job in a high school in Shanghai, which has been an amazing experience. It has also granted me the opportunity to travel to places in Asia, that I would never thought I would get to visit. I highly recommend this program as you will get all the help and information you need to get to China.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I wouldn't change anything about my experience it has been amazing from day one.

Best time in Beijing!

From start to finish The Fewer Things helped me every step of the way, especially the the beginning of the process which can seem overwhelming and daunting. Could not reccommend them enough. I have had the best year teaching in China and I felt at ease whenever I had any issues; I could go straight to Jaemi and ask for advice or assistance.
My school was fantastic and I had a fabluous time with them.
The communication was really good with The Fewer Things and the government scheme - BIEE. When it comes down to the school placement, it is really luck of the draw!
Every school is different and every district is different (in Beijing).
One thing is a cert... The Fewer Things are by far the best choice company to choose when going abroad and teaching for the first time!

The Fewer Things

Going to China has been an amazing and eye-opening adventure. The Fewer Things has provided me the amazing opportunity to travel and work. I have found teaching to be extremely rewarding, not to mention, a lot of fun! The Fewer Things has given me total support with every step of the journey from the application process to being able to answer an questions I have while I'm out here! Jaemi at The Fewer Things is always happy to help and is someone you can count on. This program is the perfect way to combine adventure and work!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Make sure you have all your apps downloaded before you get to China! It's a very app dependent society. And, of course, brush up on your Chinese.

Teach English in Nanjing, China

This opportunity to teach English abroad was exactly what I needed at the time, I definitely do not regret this at all! Jaemi and The Fewer Things were incredibly helpful in the lengthy preparation process to work in China. Jaemi was always available if I had any questions or concerns, and with something this life changing it made me feel so much more in control and prepared.
The summer training camp in Beijing was a little more intense than I'd been told, but it actually worked out because as a first time teacher it left me little room to get nervous about teaching.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
While I don't regret taking up this amazing once in a lifetime opportunity, I do regret not having learnt the basics of Mandarin before I came out here. It makes your life SO much easier to be able to say even a few things, and makes your environment a little less scary as you recognise some characters.

Jaemi and the Fewer Things gave us great support before we left for Shanghai. He answered all our questions and put our minds at ease with his experiences in China and general advice.Since we've been here, Jaemi has continued with his support and he is always there if we need help with anything.
