Beijing Life

Hi, I'm Richie and I was one of the first ever teachers to do this programme back in 2018, I have been in Beijing ever since and I can not recommend it enough to people who are looking to come to China.

The support you receive from the moment you apply all the way through to you being in China is incredible, Jaemi from TFT still checks in with me regularly even after nearly 2 years of being here.

The best part about this experience for me has been meeting new people and immersing my self into a culture I knew nothing about. It has been such a great opportunity and I am glad I pursued it.

Teaching in Shanghai

The Fewer Things have been amazing in helping me get to China and supporting me while Iโ€™ve been here. No question or problem is too big or small, Jaemi has been able to help me with everything. I am having the best time in Shanghai; China is a crazy, beautiful and amazing place to live and so easy to fall in love with. I like it so much that Iโ€™m staying for a second year. If youโ€™re looking or even thinking about moving to China to teach English I would definitely recommend The Fewer Things, they are the best people to get you there!

A great adventure

Before choosing The Fewer Things I looked at a few other options but the reviews and offer they had were amazing so me and my boyfriend decided to go for it and It has not disappointed. We have been in China for 6 months now and honestly can't see ourselves going back to the U.K. anytime soon. The apartment we got downtown Shanghai is great and only a 5 minute walk to the metro station, so it is not that far to get to our school (about 30 minutes)

The teaching is fun and pretty relaxed, you can end up doing teaching the same lesson a few times a week because you don't always see the same the same class twice in a week. But that means less lesson planning!

We really liked the social side of things in the run up to China and once here, Jaemi from The Fewer Things creates a group chat with all of the applicants, so you get to know people before you even arrive and everyone helps each other out with the online TEFL and visa process. I would recommend this programme to anyone 100 times over.

Canadian in China!

I was surprised and pleased at the sheer amount of support and help I received from Jaemi and The Fewer Things before and after I landed in China. It has been a great experience and Iโ€™m so pleased I finally made the leap. I was a little nervous to go to China and my dad was freaking out completely but they supported me to make the move.

I throughly enjoyed the Tefl training, it had special section which were specific to teaching Chinese students which was the most helpful part for me, as I had no idea what it would be like!

I am very thankful for this opportunity

The Fewer Things

I started my journey teaching abroad in Nanjing, it is such amazing place and when I first got here the teachers at coordinator at my schools were so welcoming It was something I had been nervous about in the run up to China. But once I got there they were all proper lovely.

The summer camp in Beijing was really useful to me and seems to help other teachers too. Everyone in my group had just graduated apart from one older man but he had never taught either. I felt The Fewer Things did a great job of helping me with pretty much everything really, they were on their to help me whenever I needed.

Teaching in Nanjing

I was placed in Nanjing by The Fewer Things and Iโ€™ve loved it since being here. China can be tough some times but the people Iโ€™ve met here have been amazing and Iโ€™ve enjoyed meeting new friends.

The TEFL course and summer camp were the most helpful parts of my whole experience and really taught me a lot about teaching Chinese students. I had experience teaching before this at home in the U.K. but it is completely different!

Thank you Jaemi and the team for giving me an amazing time.

Holiday time!

Shanghai!

The teaching programme ran by TFT is one of the best things I have ever been a part of, the Summer Camp you get to go on before starting your placement is a lot of help (although intense) it is 10 days of teaching students and you are in the classroom with 2 other teachers so the work load is balanced, it was a great way to get over my initial nerves of teaching.

The support I received from the coordinator was great and he was always available to help me with and questions I had. I would recommend this programme to anyone who is looking for a new adventure.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I was supposed to sign up with a friend but she dropped out before we came, I would have loved to have shared this experience with someone I'm close with.

Teaching in China

From the moment I applied to The Fewer Things I knew I had made the right decision, I was given so much support with everything in terms of visa, flights and the legal side of things. Jaemi even organised my documents for me as I was busy in my last year of Uni.

I have been in Shanghai for 4 months now and thoroughly enjoy life here, the teaching is easy and relaxed and I have a lot of free time to roam around the city. I have met many new people here and even now have a girlfriend who is here from Vietnam.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Make sure you have enough spending money for your initial month here. I brought 4000 RMB and it was just enough to get by but would recommend a little more if you are going out a lot.
