About Program

SAVE Volunteering is a Non-Profit Organisation. We are NOT a booking agent: we run, manage and fund all of our Humanitarian and Wildlife Projects with the help of volunteers.
We believe in transparent and sustainable programs that impact our local community and wildlife.

The volunteer fees go towards, food, accommodation, transport, orientation and the rest of the money gets donated to the NPO for running costs such as stationary or meals for the children and meals for the Wildlife.

Join one of our amazing projects and leave with a life-changing experience!

Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger. You can read about the potential dangers of orphanage volunteering here.

Popular Programs

Sports with the youth

Children living in impoverished communities have a huge need for youth development projects which serve to teach them valuable life skills such as teamwork, structure, discipline and which uplifts their self-esteem through the realization of talent.

Volunteer with a child

The main objective is empowering the local community and supporting them with their basic needs. We regularly distribute food hampers to the underprivileged and clothes in the winter. We engage these communities in regular education, motivation, and social upliftment programs and exciting events such as fun at the beach, various sporting activities and movie outings that are hosted throughout the year.

At the preschool

Volunteers are placed in pre-schools in disadvantaged communities. No experience is necessary and volunteers can have the joy of watching a child learn and helping them through the process. You will be assigned to a class and will help the teacher in their daily tasks, be it teaching, marking or sports training. After school hours volunteers will be involved in after care or after school programs in the settlements.

Volunteers surfing with students

This project is a great way for volunteers to gain experience working with children and groups. Learning new outdoor activities such as swimming, boxing, spike ball surfing and skateboarding – volunteers receive lessons so they can help teach the children.

Volunteer attending to a sick baby

The Clinic is based in Epukiro provides free primary health care services to more than 3,500 patients every year – through both clinic-based healthcare and personal outreach around the region. More than 40% of the patients treated there are children and more than 90% are San Bushmen. A huge focus of the work at the Clinic is to tackle the tuberculosis burden within the San population. The clinic is quite literally a lifeline for thousands of San Bushman.

Woodwork

This Project allows volunteers to transfer a skill they have to the local communities. Communities you will work in have low education levels and English comprehension. SAVE is always in need of volunteers with special skills that they can transfer to our communities and allow them to become self-sufficient and productive members of society. Examples are first aid, family planning, childcare, dance classes, drama workshops, business management, computer literacy, woodwork and craftsmanship.

surfing project

I have done the surfing project for 3 weeks and it was amazing. The accomondation was at the.beginning realy cold because the window was broken and it was during the winder time. But i got use to it. The stuff there us really friendly and helpful. In the morning i worked at a pre-school and it was a great expirience. I learned a lot about growing up in a township and start to be thankfull for my own life and childhood.
In the.afteenoon came the older kids to us for surfing.Thies was a little das because of the weather we just could go for surfing 4 times with the kids. Maybe july and august are the wrong time for doing this project.
All in all i really loved my time in Cape town and i wont miss One single moment.
I will.defnetly come back!

A Life-Changing Experience

This has been my second time back with SAVE, and I can once again say that I had an amazing time!
The surf project is a lot of fun because you can often go to the schools and help out in the morning and still surf with the kids in the afternoons. It's so nice to be able to give the kids something to do after school!
The SAVE and Salty Crax staff are all awesome people..it's so cool to meet people who can work hard and play hard :)
I love living in the volunteer houses as well, they are super comfortable and great for the social aspect of volunteering!
Overall, this experience has changed the way I see the world and the way I want to live my life. One of the best parts is that I now know people from around the world that I will never forget, and that I'm glad to call good friends.
If you're looking to help people and maybe help yourself in the process, then SAVE is the perfect place for you!

What would you improve about this program?
I signed up through an agency, and they weren't very clear on the SAVE program at all!

Volunteering in SA

I did the adventure surf club program for ten weeks and i totally loved it.
It is amazing to see much fun the kids have and how fast they learn.
Also for me it was very nice to meet new people from all over the world and the fact that you can learn how to surf makes it even nicer ;)
I had the time of my life ;)

Can't Wait to Get Back

In June 2011, I stayed at SaltyCrax and participated in a SAVE program. We volunteered on weekday mornings and afternoons, and we would have the evenings and weekends to ourselves.

My group (10 women) volunteered at an elementary school in the morning, and each volunteer got to help in a classroom by herself. We got to learn more about the students and the teaching environment, we established connections, and I really miss my kids! In the afternoons, we went to a township and helped prepare the foundation for a preschool. Despite not speaking the same language, the people of the township and our volunteer group got along well. Smiling faces and genuine concern go a long way.

In our free time, the staff was extremely helpful in providing ideas of things to do. During my stay, I went to Robben Island, saw a play at the Artscape, took a walking tour of Cape Town, went on a wine tour, and more. The staff made us feel safe and comfortable, and helped us arrive at all of our destinations.

I have been waiting to save money and return, but my only reservation is the cost of a plane ticket! Otherwise, I would fly back immediately!

What would you improve about this program?
If I had to think critically of complaints, they would only come from American privilege. For what SAVE has, it is amazing as it is and satisfies all needs and desires. If you need absolutely anything, the staff is friendly, welcoming, and ready to help.
