About Program

SAVE Volunteering is a Non-Profit Organisation. We are NOT a booking agent: we run, manage and fund all of our Humanitarian and Wildlife Projects with the help of volunteers.
We believe in transparent and sustainable programs that impact our local community and wildlife.

The volunteer fees go towards, food, accommodation, transport, orientation and the rest of the money gets donated to the NPO for running costs such as stationary or meals for the children and meals for the Wildlife.

Join one of our amazing projects and leave with a life-changing experience!

Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger. You can read about the potential dangers of orphanage volunteering here.

Popular Programs

Sports with the youth

Children living in impoverished communities have a huge need for youth development projects which serve to teach them valuable life skills such as teamwork, structure, discipline and which uplifts their self-esteem through the realization of talent.

Volunteer with a child

The main objective is empowering the local community and supporting them with their basic needs. We regularly distribute food hampers to the underprivileged and clothes in the winter. We engage these communities in regular education, motivation, and social upliftment programs and exciting events such as fun at the beach, various sporting activities and movie outings that are hosted throughout the year.

At the preschool

Volunteers are placed in pre-schools in disadvantaged communities. No experience is necessary and volunteers can have the joy of watching a child learn and helping them through the process. You will be assigned to a class and will help the teacher in their daily tasks, be it teaching, marking or sports training. After school hours volunteers will be involved in after care or after school programs in the settlements.

Volunteers surfing with students

This project is a great way for volunteers to gain experience working with children and groups. Learning new outdoor activities such as swimming, boxing, spike ball surfing and skateboarding – volunteers receive lessons so they can help teach the children.

Volunteer attending to a sick baby

The Clinic is based in Epukiro provides free primary health care services to more than 3,500 patients every year – through both clinic-based healthcare and personal outreach around the region. More than 40% of the patients treated there are children and more than 90% are San Bushmen. A huge focus of the work at the Clinic is to tackle the tuberculosis burden within the San population. The clinic is quite literally a lifeline for thousands of San Bushman.

Woodwork

This Project allows volunteers to transfer a skill they have to the local communities. Communities you will work in have low education levels and English comprehension. SAVE is always in need of volunteers with special skills that they can transfer to our communities and allow them to become self-sufficient and productive members of society. Examples are first aid, family planning, childcare, dance classes, drama workshops, business management, computer literacy, woodwork and craftsmanship.

Time of my life

Had an awesome time working with all the kids and teaching them English, swimming and surfing. Teaching the kids another language improves their chances of a better life and teaching them how to swim and surf keeps them from the streets and gives them a good time. Also you get the chance to meet a lot of new people from all over the world and have the time of your life.

What would you improve about this program?
It's pretty much perfect.

SAVE

Save is a really well organized organization which offers lots of different programs including programs with animals and people. I did the surfing project in July and August and even though the weather was not that good to do surfing with the kids I still had an amazing time.
In the mornings you will spend time on the creches with younger kids or at the computer classes doing maths with older kids and in the afternoon you'll do surfing or swimming with the older kids. Before I came here I had never done surfing and thanks to the surfing lessons I got (for free) I know the basics. So surfing skills are not required!
Volunteering for SAVE is more than just volunteer work. You'll meet lots of people from different countries who wanna go out, do day trips and like spending time together. You'll make friends for life and most of them will come back to SA, and so will I!

What would you improve about this program?
I would recommend this program to students from 19-24 years old (and not till 31), cause most of the volunteers are around the age of twenty-oneeeee.

Unforgettable

Me and my girlfriend have volunteered at this program for three weeks last february (2013). We worked at a creche to teach the little kids there some English. We had a great time there and at the end of the week we could really see that they picked up what we taught them (how to introduce themselves).

We like to think we made a little impact in their lives, but they definately made a huge one in ours. SAVE really let us bring our own ideas into the program and gave us the responsibility of educating the kids on a day-to-day basis. There was a creche leader there who unfortunately didn't speak English but was very helpful with handeling the kids and looking after the youngest ones.

We had awesome experiences with the kids like taking them to the beach (they had only been there once before) and taking kids from a settlement to a birthday party.
The other volunteers and the people from SAVE were really great. They helped us when we needed them and they provided fun nights out with the other volunteers like bowling night and barbecues.

Sometimes there were little problems like who was going to drive or which people would help at which creche but we really admired how the SAVE people handled things and made sure everybody was happy. This is a great program and a great experience. We want to go back a.s.a.p., if you are thinking about doing it, you should.

What would you improve about this program?
A better learning program for the kids, so that they don't learn the same stuff from new people over and over again. Like a goal for which level of English the kids should have at a certain age. That way the kids benefit and learn faster, and the volunteers have a clear idea of their added value in the program.

Extraordinary experience!

I had an amazing time working SAVE, specifically on the Dunoon program where I assisted in teaching children English which was a very rewarding experience. The children are great and the program is really well put-together. I would recommend anyone who is interested in doing meaningful volunteer work while making new friends to join a SAVE program!
