Did you live with a host family in Spain? If yes, what did you like and dislike about the experience?

I studied abroad in Bilbao, Spain and personally, I did not live with a host family, but I had a lot of friends in my program who did. They had generally very positive experiences! It was the best way to practice and improve your Spanish. It is also a great way to meet the locals because often times they will introduce you to their friends. The only thing that was a struggle for some people living with host families was adjusting to their way of living. The Spanish have different eating schedules, very small breakfast, 2pm or so lunch, and a late dinner around 9 or 10pm. This just takes some getting used to, but then you adjust and it becomes normal. There's also a little less freedom to when you eat and what you eat (they'll try to be as accommodating as possible, but you also have to be willing to try new things!) Overall, I think it's a great experience and especially for people focused on improving their language skills!
