What are some good options for me if I only want to teach abroad for a month or two?

Answer

Hi Justin!

There are many options for short-term teaching, particularly if you are ok with "volun-teaching" (i.e. not earning a local salary, or only a small stipend). The paying jobs tend to require a longer-term commitment (5-12 months); however, if you can't take that long of a break, there are still many options for you. For example, we offer volun-teaching, tutoring, and teacher's assistant opportunities in places like France, Italy, Costa Rica, and Thailand. You can find these programs by clicking on our profile link, or at https://www.apistudyabroad.com/experiential-programs/teach/.

Good luck, and let us know if you have any questions!

There are plenty of programs. You can try JET (for Japan), GeoVisions (which allows teaching positions and jobs/internships in multiple places overseas in both Europe and Asia), try checking out individual scholarships from your alma mater if you can.

You may also want to apply for summer camp and winter camp programs in China! I wrote a post a while back on where to find jobs teaching in China that might be a good resource for you to find places in addition to the Go Overseas job listings board

Hi Justin!
If you are interested in volunteering abroad, that is a good option in the summer! CIEE offers a program in Peru for one month, starting in June and lasting through July. It is an awesome opportunity where you can really become part of an awesome community on the outskirts of Lima. Three days a week you’ll work with a highly energetic and affectionate group of students at a local Elementary school. You will design and teach mini-English lessons in all subjects alongside a Peruvian teacher. The other two weekdays will be dedicated to your professional development at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, where you’ll learn how global issues impact development in Peru, particularly in the field of education. Not only will you support a high caliber community-based educational program, you’ll add to your credentials, earning a Certificate in Education for Social Change. This program is voluntary, so you will not be given a salary. However, you will be living with a host family with two meals a day included.

Hope this helps! Let us know if you have any questions!
