About Program
Surround yourself in Uruguay's rich culture while advancing your Spanish!
Uruguay is a constitutional democracy with a large, educated middle class and a robust developing economy. The capital city is Montevideo. Uruguayans share a Spanish linguistic and cultural background, even though about one-quarter of the population is of Italian origin. Uruguay has an impressive legacy of artistic and literary traditions, especially for its small size. The tango has an entire sub-culture centered on movement, music, and lyrics. Tango is love, hate, and passion. Inland, we find the culture of the gaucho, the cowboys of South America.
Uruguay is a nation of immigrants and a considerable percentage of the population comes from many different places such as Italy, Spain, Germany, East Europe, Nordic countries, South East Asia, Middle East, neighboring countries and many more. Family in Uruguay is a very close unit, with many grandparents living with the children and grandchildren.
