You will be hosted at our facility called the Marine Conservation and Education Center (MCEC).

Each day, the expeditioners are taught a new subject which they will apply the next day during their underwater dives. These captivating projects range from invertebrate theory to sea turtle migration studies, to 3D Coral Modeling – providing a subject that will surely resonate with each person.

To join an expedition you need to have your first scuba diving certification. Not a diver yet? You can do your Open Water with us just before the expedition.

Highly recommend

I had a very educational and memorable experience with Innoceana’s 7-day conservation expedition. The staff is passionate and knowledgeable. It is clear they enjoy working with one another, but the focus is certainly on the participant and that is felt throughout the course. As a beginner diver, I also appreciated the patience shown by each staff member. The organization is well-equipped, and the accommodations and food were excellent. I would highly recommended the experience to others living in or visiting Costa Rica - and already have! What a great team of people.

Amazing experience with a knowledgeable organization

The MCEC organization and programs are super impressive and inspirational. I would 100% recommend them for people interested in marine conservation and Costa Rica. I learned so much from their staff who are knowledgeable in the field of marine conservation and scuba diving. The facilities are brand-new, clean, and well organized with the latest equipment. The local towns of Ojochal and Uvita have great restaurants, infrastructure and are surrounded by pristine Costa Rican coastline. Hard to imagine a better experience.

Volonteer as a marine biologist

I stayed 2 months at MCEC Innoceana as an intern for my studies in Marine Biology. I had an amazing and wonderful experience thanks to Innoceana ! I participated in many innovative projects that are integrated in the protection of the marine world. I went from theory to practice, on the beautiful Pacific coast of Costa Rica! The whole team is so friendly and especially passionate about the ocean and proud to share their knowledge, and more...
My experience in Costa Rica will remain engraved in my memory !

Best experience of my life!

The marine conservation expedition with Innoceana was incredible! It has been the best experience! I learned so much, diving was amazing, the team was so much fun and I was really sad to leave.
I stayed with Innoceana 4 extra weeks after the expedition and have been able to help them in so many ways, assisting in different areas which has allowed me to understand so much better the work in an NGO.
During my internship with Innoceana, I really felt like I made a difference, like I had an impact on the conservation of the ocean.
Thank you to this beautiful and passionate team of Ocean Warriors!

Pros
  • diving in paradise
  • food was delish
  • incredible team
